Families Together will receive $1 for every tool bar downloaded from April 6 - 8, 2010 |
We have something new and exciting we'd like to share with you! It's the new Families Together toolbar - once added to Internet Explorer or Firefox, each time you shop at more than 1,300 stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will automatically be donated to Families Together - at no cost to you (and you may even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals as well!). The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to Families Together. http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/families-together

Great Time to Contact Representatives & Senators |
As most of you are well aware, the economic circumstances led the governor to make dramatic cuts in Medicaid services and in money for education. These cuts have affected many of your families or the students you advocate for.
During the legislative session, there will be many decisions that will alleviate or aggravate the cuts to these vital programs.
It is more important than ever to:
let them know your story (call, write, email); and
ask for their help in restoring the services that your family member needs.
If you are not sure of who your representative or senator is, call the Families Together, Inc. office and we will help you get the information you need to contact them. You can also look up your representative or senator on the legislative website at: http://www.kslegislature.org/legsrvlegisportal/redistricting.do
Together, we can make a difference in the way our legislators view the needs of families of children and youth with disabilities!

Making the Most of Summer |
This week's Wrightslaw newsletter advises parents on helping their child pursue their interests through specialized programs while helping them relax and have fun. They encourage parents to find activities that offer positive and rewarding experiences that foster independence and self-esteem. There are articles on finding the right camp, resources on finding youth programs and summer camps. There is also an item on Summer Planning for Military Kids and the new special needs park in San Antonio (Morgan's Wonderland). This issue and information is at: http://www.wrightslaw.com/nltr/10/nl.0330.htm While it is not always easy to find camps and organized activities in many areas, there are organizations & groups in your area that may be aware of opportunities. Also parents can work with other parents to provide periodic activities. Families & groups should brainstorm to find activities that address the objectives mention in the first paragraph |
