I am committed to sharing the truth about health and fitness. There are a lot of false beliefs out there. I have learned that if you set out to improve your health and fitness but rely on false beliefs, you will stay stuck and become disillusioned with the whole process. The hope that it will work for you will disappear.
This process is a challenge. It requires commitment. It requires courage. You have to be willing to keep digging, to peel back layer after layer and figure out what it is deep within you that is keeping you from treating yourself and your body like the sacred home of your heart and soul.
A diet can never do this. So please stop dieting. I can only imagine if I had lost weight like that, the torment I would live under of trying to keep a grip on that deprivation so as not to gain my weight back. Just a terrible way to live. And it's not how we are meant to eat. We are supposed to eat. A lot! We are supposed to enjoy food and feel satisfied.
Exercise alone can never do this. It is a very good thing to do, but alone it will never be enough. You cannot out-train an unhealthy diet. We are meant to feed our bodies with lots and lots of healthy food. I believe the way to this is not by conjuring up a bunch of self discipline, but rather by healing the things that got us here in the first place. That way, you don't have to experience deprivation and a lifetime of dieting. Instead, your wants completely change.
Take a look at some of the lies we tell ourselves. Are they really true, or could we find others with the same circumstances that are doing it anyway? You have to do it anyway. Remember the transformation comes by doing. By conquering. By overcoming.
Just a few of the thousands of false beliefs we hold near and dear (all of us):
I don't have time.
I don't like healthy food.
I can't cook.
I can't change because I have a family.
I can't change because I live alone.
I've always failed before.
I know what to do, I just don't do it.
I just don't like exercise.
I need my wine.
My kids' sports.
I can't make time for me.
I'm not a morning person.
My metabolism.
My genetics.
I'm not beautiful.
I'm too busy at work.
It's stressful right now.
I don't want to be deprived.
I'm not worth it.
I'm too old.
It's too late.
I'm not good enough.
I have no strength.
I have no balance.
I'm too tired.
It's not possible for me to be at my healthy weight.
The way to transformation is to see lies for what they really are. They are what hold you back and keep you stuck. Expose them! Shine as much light as possible on them. Peel back those layers. See if you can get an understanding of where they came from, then say to yourself "that was then, this is NOW!"
Then from that place of truth, that place inside of you (inside of all of us) where you know you can do anything, be anything, accomplish anything, conquer anything. From that place, begin to make new, extraordinary choices. No more ordinary. No more living out of the wounds we've carried or the lies we told ourselves. Only abundant, radiant, exuberant life.
Now get moving!
