Motivation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last week I was in Body Pump class when one of the instructors said "If nothing changes, nothing changes."
I thought to myself, how true! Funny that I need reminded of that, since it sounds like common sense. But the reality is that even though I may really want to change something about my life, I may not be doing anything about it except thinking about it. I call that being stuck in my head. I have found that I can spend quite a lot of time thinking about doing something without ever getting it done.
It takes a lot of courage to make a change. You have to get out of your comfort zone. Since we talk about fitness, getting out of your comfort zone may mean getting your heart rate up higher, sweating more, feeling those muscles burn, or being sore. But I think what's even tougher is getting out of my mental comfort zone. Once I am out of my comfort zone in that way, I am vulnerable to failure, feeling stupid or feeling insecure.
There has to be something stronger to override the desire to quit and crawl back into the very safe place of where you are right now. There has to be a well of hope, inspiration, motivation and desire for something better. There has to be a vision of what is possible. Don't we all love stories of people who have overcome obstacles and changed their life? It is inspiring to see possibility in others and it allows us to see that same possibility in ourselves.
I believe change is possible. I believe we are all capable of being at a healthy weight. I believe we all have the right to feel good about ourselves. I believe we each have the courage it takes to make a different choice this week.
If you feel like you've been stuck in your head, thinking about making a change but not taking the action needed to make it happen, take a look at what you believe. So many women walk through my door having lost the belief that being at a healthy weight is even possible for them. That is a lie. You may have obstacles to overcome. Don't we all. You may have old ways of thinking to dig through and false beliefs to expose. But it can be done!
It is scary. It is hard work. Those of us who beat ourselves up regularly may want to avoid ever trying again because the self esteem crash is just too painful to endure one more time. I get it. But quitting is not the answer. Believing is the answer. Remember who you are- a strong, inspired person capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.
Now get moving.
