Happy Memorial Day.

If you want to get a workout in Monday, come to Group Strength at 10:30 AM even if you normally don't.  And if you want to get consistent in your walking and really make some progress this summer, come to the walk on Thursday at Sharon Woods.  You can do it!

If you don't live here, plan your walks anyway and then write to me about them.  Did you keep your appointment with yourself?  How did that feel?  How far did you walk?  What was your heart rate?  I want to know.

Motivation

NAWCI read a definition of "power" recently that really hit me: "The ability to bring about a desired result."  Are we each living in that kind of power?  Knowing that we have the ability to bring about what we want for our lives?
 
When you think about fitness, what do you want?  Do you want to be strong?  Fit?  Athletic?  Healthy?  Confident?  A role model?  Are your reasons big enough to get you to lace up your shoes every day and put in your miles or time in the gym?
 
For me, when I felt my worst I not only hated how I looked but I was stuck in a pretty bad spiral of beating myself up.  I just didn't feel good about myself.  When I started walking at Highbanks, I started feeling a little more empowered on every walk.  What I thought had gotten away from me completely -- my ability to be fit and confident -- started to feel possible again.
 
Now, when I have that moment when I am choosing whether to workout or not, I remember those times when I felt lost to myself and it makes it a joy (most days) to lace up my shoes and start moving because nothing was worse than the thought of living the rest of my life under that cloud of self loathing.
 
If you feel at all stuck, just put your shoes on.  Then step outside.  Then start to walk.  This is not something you can reason your way out of.  In fact, our minds are only in the way.  Walk, walk, walk.  One step and then another.  Pretty soon, you will feel the power that was inside you all along.  It's never too late.
 
Now get moving!

"I was helping my son-in-law dig out the footer for a patio he was putting in. After awhile he said, "wow this goes faster with two people digging".  I told him before I started training with Sue, I was not strong enough to help but now I was ....and not even a little sore the next day!  It really felt good to be able to do that. At 61 years old I was starting to feel I wasn't strong enough to do what I wanted and what I used to do... now I can again!  When I started that was one of the goals we talked about and I am on my way!!"

"Just wanted to let you know that I am interested in joining the walking group, but I couldn't go this past Thursday or this morning.  And I am out of town this coming week, so won't be able to start until the week of June 7."  - No problem, see you then!
 
"I would like to join if you have room for one more."  -Yes, I have room.  See you Thursday!
