Day 78 of my running streak.
I am amazed at how the accountability of this running streak gets me out the door.
On days when I am busy or tired, I still run. On days when it is snowing, I hit the treadmill. Bad mood? Run anyway. Feel like being a coach potato? Run.
Why? Because it is important to me to be able to report to all of you positive results. I could not stand sitting down to write my newsletter and have to write "broke running streak on day 76 because I didn't feel like it".
What is your accountability? I believe that we all need it. Maybe not in the same aspects of our lives, but having someone to be accountable to helps people stay the course.
Personal training is a lot about accountability. After one or two sessions, you know how to do a bicep curl, right? I did, but I worked out as a client of Jud's for four years. Having that appointment meant that I would get a workout, even if the rest of the week went to hell.
It also meant having someone to report to. I always loved being able to show up for my workout and report that I ran a whole mile, or worked out twice on my own. I also had weeks where I didn't do anything on my own, and got the encouragement I needed to do better next week.
If you are not using me for accountability, I encourage you to try it. Whether you are working out with me right now or not, send me an email with your goal for the week. A week later, send me a follow up and let me know how you did. If you met your goal, we can celebrate by email! If you didn't meet your goal, perhaps I can help you figure out what happened, and encourage you to do better next week.
There is power in stating your intentions to someone. Think about what you want to accomplish. Then decide on a few small steps you are willing to commit to this week. Write them down. Share them. Do them.
That's how to feel fabulous about yourself. Now get moving!
