Greetings!
Your library has had a lot of changes lately. One of them is a new phone system. In upgrading, we have moved to using voicemail. See story below. The library moves to fall hours on Sept. 7 and will again be open on Sundays from 1-5 pm.
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library annual book sale will be bigger and better than ever! Check it out below.
The children's summer reading is winding down. There's still time to finish reading and get prizes. See story below.
Sept. is Library Card Sign Up month. Make sure your child or teen gets that invaluable library card that is a gateway to information 24/7! For adults, stop in and update your card for free eBooks and lots more.
The library will host many programs this fall. The adult book club will start up again with Kathleen Metrick leading the group. Check it out! Haddonfield author Mark Kram, Jr. visits on Sept. 6.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has placed a display in honor of the Constitution by the main circulation desk on the first floor.
Volunteers help the library in many ways. See the story about Haddy and other good deeds below.
Please visit us soon! Happy Labor Day to all from the Library Board and staff!

The Library Has a New Telephone System The library recently got a new telephone system to replace its early 1990s system. A decision has been made to migrate to a voice mail system so every call will no longer be answered. The volume of calls is much greater and many questions are routine, such as "What are Your Hours?" Our staff will be able to better serve you. In the 21st century library, there are more services and many require uninterrupted staff attention. Listen to our menu and you will find that most inquiries can be answered by choosing a prompt. We welcome your feedback and know that you can reach a staff member by holding the line. |

Haddonfield Author Mark Kram, Jr. book talks " Like Any Normal Day" on Sept. 6 at 7 pm
Join us for an evening with local author Mark Kram, Jr. on Sept. 6. at 7 pm. He has written a compelling book "Like Any Normal Day", a story that looks piercingly beyond the moment when the lights dim and the crowds go home in any young athlete's life. Mr. Kram's acuity and sympathies stretch far beyond the sportswriters's practiced gaze-indeed, all the way to the realm of literature. Like Any Normal Day explores the enduring bond between brothers and the claims that duty places upon each of us in the wake of a catastrophic event. Mr. Kram will autograph the book and a question and answer session will follow the discussion.
Mr. Kram is a Senior Writer for the Philadelphia Daily News. His feature articles have been awarded top honors by the Associated Press for several years, and he has been published in the Best American Sports Writing Anthology. This free program is co-sponsored by the Haddonfield Friends of the Library. Call 429-1304 to register. |

Summer Reading Program "Dream Big, Read" @ Your Library Finishes on Sept. 5
Each summer, kids preschool through teen are invited to keep track of books they read during our Summer Reading Program. There is still time to complete the Dream Big, Read Summer program. Participants are encouraged to add at least six books to their reading logs to complete the program by Sept. 5! Tickets to the movies will be mailed to all those who complete the program in late October.
The final summer reading program on Aug. 23 with a big laser show was great. Children's Librarian Dorothy Peppard, who excels in all of her undertakings, really outdid herself with this fantastic event, attended by 150. See photos below of children enjoying the show! A special thanks to the Haddonfield Friends of the Library for providing funding for all programs. Please support them - visit HFOL

Haddy II | Good Deeds at the Library by Volunteers
The Webelos Den of Cub Scout Pack 64 did another fine volunteer deed for the library last Spring. The 4th and 5th graders assisted Jeff Purnell and other adult leaders in replacing the plexiglass over the window wells on the Haddon St. side of the library. The group had already replaced the plexiglas on Tanner St. They also repointed the bricks in the area. It looks wonderful. A special thanks to Cub Scout Pack 64 for their fine work on this much needed task.
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library placed a dinosaur bank named Haddy in the Children's Dept. Susan K. Reed, chair of the Friends Membership Committee, selected Haddy and oversaw his coming to the library. Unfortunately someone stole Haddy in mid-July. The Friends were determined to turn this sad event into a success story. A second Haddy was ordered. Haddy II is back at the library and he is well secured. Friends Teen trustee member Abby Monteleone and her family provided funding for Haddy II. So, kids, bring in your pennies and coins and drop them into Haddy. All funds will be used for children's programs! Hats off to Susan Reed, all of the Friends Exec. Board and to the Monteleone family for bringing Haddy back!
Robin Potter and members of the Haddonfield Shade Tree Commission moved mulch around the trees in front of the library in April to ensure their healthy growth. This was a half day's work and we thank the group for preserving trees @ your library. Robin has another landscaping project to improve the library's grounds to be done on Tanner St. after the book sale in late Sept.
The library has several wonderful volunteers who work at the library at a variety of tasks. Working at the Circulation Desk are: Dolores Barker, Dolores Landgraf, and Bonnie Rosenberg. Sharon Cattell, Mary Clark, Jane Kelly, and Doris Klice assist with preparing books for the annual book sale and related tasks.
Lastly, our Haddonfield Friends of the Library Executive Board volunteers hundreds of hours each year for the book sale and fundraising activities. They are: Phil Shapiro, President; Mike Kinsey, Vice-President; Kristin Redmond, Secretary; Betsy Anderson, Recording Secretary; Lisa Howard, Treasurer; Brian Smith and John Wolf, Book Sale co-chairmen; Susan K. Reed, Membership Chair; Rich Cunliffe, Bill Hinrichsen, Natalia Kastenberg, Abby Monteleone, Nina Rebmann, and Jerry Tritt. John Burmaster, former Friends president, serves as liaison to the Library Board. Many other citizens volunteer each year to make the sale a success.
