Greetings!
The holidays are here! The library is busy as ever and we know that you are. The library is beautifully decorated by the Haddonfield Garden Club. The Maslowski family placed a beautiful 25' spruce tree near Library Pointe in honor of daughter, Diane. See stories herein. If you are looking for thoughtful inexpensive book gifts, library staff have made some interesting choices available. Stop in or purchase an autographed copy of a book written by a local author.
Robert Strauss, local author of "Daddy's Little Goalie," will be here on Dec. 7 for a book signing and discussion. This is a fascinating family story that you will enjoy. See story herein.
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library continue to have their membership drive. See story below on their project to make e-books and e-book readers available for borrowing. We are thankful for our wonderful Friends, who truly make a difference in the library.
Ann Kearney, a long term Library Board of Trustees member, is leaving the Library Board. We wish her all the best and thank her for all of her valuable service to the library.

Dedication of Diane Maslowski Tree |
Lovely Tree Given by the Maslowski Family to Honor Diane Maslowski
The Maslowski family donated a 25' spruce tree in honor of their daughter, Diane Maslowski. The lovely tree was dedicated at the annual tree lighting ceremony on November 26. The tree is near Library Pointe. Diane died in 1988 when Panam Flight 103 went down near Lockerbie, Scotland. Diane was a 1976 graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School.
Stan Maslowski, Susan Maslowski and other family members watched as Caden, 5 year old nephew of Susan, counted down to the tree lighting. It was a very moving occasion attended by several hundred Haddonfield residents. The tree has a beautiful plaque in honor of Diane. Visit the tree during this holiday season to honor Diane and the Maslowski family. Mayor Tish Colombi officiated at the event. |

Do Your Shopping @ Your Library - Check Out what's Going on in December!
Are you looking for unique gifts for special people over the holidays? The library has some book lovers specials for your consideration. Staff members Cheryl Brady and Claire Stairiker have put together some lovely combinations of donated new and slightly used theme centered book packages at very reasonable prices. Stop by the adult circulation desk to see what is available. The library has a fine collection of new books autographed by local authors for sale. Click here to view the list of autographed books.
The Friends of the Library are sponsoring the Giving Tree again this year. The tree, located at the adult Circulation Desk, has tags with the titles of books, DVDs, and CDs that the library would like to purchase. If you purchase one, the library will buy it and put a plaque in your honor in the item. Staff members Claire Stairiker, Jeannie Reinking, and Anne Frontino worked out the selections and decorations.
The Haddonfield Garden Club places lovely flowers and decorations in the library every week. They also decorate during the seasons. The Garden Club recently decorated for the holidays. As usual, they adorned the library very tastefully. We thank the Garden Club for all that they do for the library. Stop in and see their fine work! See what's new @your library over the holidays!

Ann Kearney | A Special Thanks to Ann Kearney for Service on the Library Board of Trustees
Ann Kearney has served on the Library Board of Trustees for nearly twenty years. Ann is fond of saying that her daughter ,Sheila, was ready to be born when Ann came on the Library Board. Sheila is now in college. Ann is one of those people in small towns who give generously of their time and talents to improve the community for everyone. Ann has served as president, vice-president, and as a committee member on the Library Board. She has been involved in planning and overseen the growth of the library over these many years. Ann is that considerate person who notices the little things that make a big difference. She has been a real support to the library staff and to the Friends of the Library. Ann volunteers every year to help with the annual book sale. Ann is very involved with the Interfaith Caregivers, too.
We will all miss Ann. The Library Board, staff, Friends of the Library, and citizens thank Ann for her many contributions to the Haddonfield Public Library. Well done, Ann! |

Update on E-books, E-book Readers, and Free Available Books!
The library staff has been working hard on making e-books available for library borrowers. You probably know that the library subscribes to Overdrive. Overdrive provides thousands of audiobooks and e-books that can be downloaded to your PC and then to your mobil device. You use your library card to transfer the books at no cost to you. Generally the books stay on your account for 7-14 days. This is because the library has subscribed with twenty other South Jersey libraries to afford the shared service. NJ libraries have a twenty year tradition of Sharing Services to ensure cost savings.
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library have given funds for the library to purchase additional e-books to meet increasing demand. The Friends have also provided funds for the library to circulate some e- book readers. This service is coming in the new year. Watch for announcements!
The library staff, led by Jo-Ann Pure (head of Reference), has been giving individual instruction to borrowers on how to use Overdrive. Jo-Ann has created help sheets. There are also easy to understand tutorials available on Overdrive.
As I use my new e-book reader and see content for sale, I want to stress to you how much content is available to you at no charge with your library card. This includes newspapers, magazines, databases, and, of course, books. Visit the library or our website for a guided tour or click on the links to explore!
The Friends of the Library do a great deal to improve the library. Visit here to join or renew your tax deductible Friends membership.
