July 2011
Volume 4, number 7

Greetings!

As usual, there is a lot going on @ your library! Summer reading is booming with great daily activities for kids and teens (see story below.) Summer hours begin on July 1 and continue until Labor Day.

The library ventures into opera this month with a screening of La Traviata as hosted by President of the Friends Phil Shapiro on July 13, at 6 pm.

For  teens, check out  Open Mic Night. The first Open Mic Night on June 29 was very successful. More than 75 people showed up to cheer on their favorite acts. Check out the story and pictures below. The next Open Mic Night will be July 27. There is a lot of local talent to hear and see!

The Friends of the Library are gearing up for another spectacular book sale. Hold those books until August for them, if possible! The Friends do so much to support the library. Hold the dates of Sept. 23-25 for the next sale!

The Daughters of the American Revolution have placed a lovely display for Independence Day. Stop in and see it. The staff and Library Board hope to see you soon at the library!

Cordially,

Summer Reading "One World, Many Stories" all Summer LongChildren reading

Each summer, kids preschool through teen are invited to keep track of books they read during our Summer Reading Program. A new theme is introduced each summer, and theme-related programs and incentives encourage members to continue to enjoy reading through the summer. Preschoolers may participate in the program as parents read to them and record the books at the library. A celebration including entertainment and refreshments winds up the program in August.

The Summer Reading Program theme for 2011 will be One World, Many Stories for kids and You Are Here for teens.  Sign up in the Children's Room begins Monday, June 6. Read 6 books during the summer and receive a great award! End of summer celebration at Borough Hall with Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band on Thursday, August 25 at 7:00PMClick here  for schedule of Summer Reading programs for July and August.
