Greetings!

April showers bring May flowers! May is a month full of gardening activities in Haddonfield. This month the Haddonfield Garden Club exhibits in the library's display case. This wonderful gardening group of Haddonfield residents has an illustrious history. Check it out this month. The group has their Annual Herb & Perennial Sale on May 7, from 9-3 pm at Kings Court, rain or shine! The lovely assortment of flowers and other goods are something to see! You might even pick up an unusual Mother's Day gift.

Another celebrated community organization, The Haddon Fortnightly, offers its Spring Home & Garden Tour on Friday, May 6, from 10-8 pm. Tickets are available at several locations, including your library.

The dedication of The Loft on April 13, a refurbished area in the balcony, was a stunning success. Please check out the pictures from the event below.

If you are job hunting, please read about the computer classes below. These free classes, taught by Camden County College instructors, are well worth your time and may help you to land that job you have been looking for.

Your library has gone to the dogs! Check it out!

Stray

Haddonfield Author Dina Greenberg Discusses "Stray" on May 17, at 7 pm

Dina Greenberg will discuss her new e-story "Stray" on May 17, at 7 pm. Carl Ingram is a handsome, middle-aged drifter who has a big chip on his shoulder.  Pin-balling across the U.S., he is always resourceful enough to find work and an accommodating woman to take him in.  Still wrestling with a deep hatred for his recently deceased father, Carl's hair-trigger anger is never far beneath an exterior that appears - at turns - both charming and cavalier.   But when Carl discovers a beautiful Siberian husky at his job site, he is suddenly forced to face his demons.

Carl has spent a life where love and relationships have been many and none lasting. Pushing away from others has left him hard and callous. A stray dog in need brings Carl's life into focus and in a unique way reflects the man's interaction with his world.

Call 429-1304 to register for this free program. The Haddonfield Friends of the Library are co-sponsors of the program.

Job Hunting? Try these Computer Classes @ Your Library!

The library is participating in a grant administered by The New Jersey State Library, an affiliate of Thomas Edison State College, which received a federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP) award in the Public Computer Center category. This grant enables the Haddonfield and hundreds of NJ libraries to upgrade bandwidth and Internet connectivity speeds.

The award consists of $5.1 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and matching funds of $1.5 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation gave an additional $150,000 to the New Jersey State Library to support E-rate technical assistance.

The goal of the program is to help in the economic recovery of the state by giving libraries the tools they need to expand services to the unemployed and underemployed by enhancing training opportunities, broadband capability and workstation availability in New Jersey libraries. It is estimated that more than five million New Jersey residents will be served through this initiative over the three years of the grant project. A component of the grant is that Camden County  College instructors and their peers throughout NJ will teach computer classes to people seeking employment.

The Haddonfield Public Library will host these free computer classes, open to NJ residents seeking assistance with job hunting. The half day classes will be held at the library. Laptops will be provided to participants to learn about computer resources for employment. The design of effective resumes and cover letters is also covered.  Classes are limited to 12 participants. To register for the classes, call Jo-Ann Pure at 856-429-1304 or email her at jkp@haddonfieldlibrary.org
