Check Out e-books for Your Nook, Sony E-Reader or other portable devices from www.haddonfieldlibrary.org
Are you a fan of e-books? Do you want to have access to them at no cost? The library subscribes to Overdrive for downloadable audio and e-Books. There are more than 2,400 e-books to choose from. About half of the books are fiction (1100) and 1357 are non-fiction. There are many categories to choose from, including for fiction (general, literature, mysteries, romances, science-fiction, thrillers) and for non-fiction (biography, business and investing, careers, computers and technology, cooking and crafts, current events, health & medicine, history, law, religion, self-improvement, sports and recreation, study aids, and travel.)
There are a few steps to take to check out the e-books. Visit here to read the general information and FAQs to understand the downloading process and compatible devices. Then download the software that will enable you to access the digitized books. Peruse the collections and check out (using your Haddonfield library card.)
Compatible devices include Barnes and Noble Nooks; Kobo e-Readers; Pandigital Novel and several Sony Readers. You can, of course, download the books to your computer (most PCs and MACs.) Unfortunately the subscription does not work with the Amazon Kindle or Apple I-Pad. Our staff is more than happy to assist if you have questions. Remember, there are also audiobooks to download from the Overdrive site that will work with many phones, as well as computers, I-Pods, and other devices.

Friends of the Library Book Sale a Super Success! Thanks for helping.
| | Book lovers browsing the sale under the big tents |
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library's annual book sale was a super success. This year the Friends had a Members only preview on Friday, Sept. 24, from 7-9 pm. About 100 Friends came out to buy books, get antique and unusual books appraised, and to have desserts supplied by local businesses. The sale continued on Sept. 25 and 26 with about 1000 people attending. The Friends collected more than 24, 000 books, DVDs, and CDs for sale.
The library is very grateful to event chair persons Brian Smith, John Wolf, and Susan Reed. They had great assistance from Phil Shapiro, Ruth Balton, Lisa Howard, Kristin Redmond, Ray Rizzutto, Dorothy Saynisch, Rich C, Chris Lakjak, Mike Kinsey, Jerry Tritt, Betsy Anderson, Anthony Sanzio, Tommy Twitchell, Natalia Kasterberg, Bill Lee, Patricia McGhee, many students from the National Honor Society, many families, and local scouts.
If anyone thinks that books are not being read, the Friends annual book sale is proof positive that people love books and are hungry to read them. We also thank you, the residents of Haddonfield , for donating your collections to ensure this annual premier book sale.

Author Mary Walton Discusses Alice Paul on October 26
| | Alice Paul |
Mary Walton is the author of "A Woman's Crusade: Alice Paul and the Battle for the Ballot", which was released in August. 2010. She will present the colorful history of Alice Paul and autograph copies of the book on October 26, at 7 pm at the library. The book's release commemorates the ninetieth anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment giving women the vote. Paul was a NJ Quaker committed to nonviolence. She was the leader of the militant wing of the suffrage movement from 1913 to 1920. When four years of lobbying, parades, rallies and electioneering failed to budge Congress, Paul and her followers were the first people to picket the White House. They were arrested, force fed, and brutalized. Mary Walton is the author of four previous nonfiction works. She was a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer for 22 years. She has also written for the New York Times, the Washingtonian, the Washington Monthly, and the American Journalism Review. The program is free but call 429-1304 to register. The Haddonnfield Friends of the Library are co-sponsors of the event.
