Welcome to the dog days of August. There is a lot going on in the library. There's still time to sign up for the Children's Summer Reading programs. Enjoy the fabulous craft and other fun reading programs @ the library.
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library are collecting books now for the annual book sale. The sale will be held on Sept. 25 and 26. Drop off those books and other audiovisual items that you have saved for the Friends.
Stop by and see the beautiful statue of a boy reading in front of the library, placed lovingly by the Haddonfield Garden Club. Stop in and cool off! Hope to see you at the library.
Sincerely, Susan Briant

Friends of the Library are collecting books for the fabulous Book Sale on 9/25 & 9/26
If you are one of the many book lovers in Haddonfield, plan now to come to the Haddonfield Friends of the Library annual book sale. The sale will again be a 2 day event on September 25 and 26, rain or shine. The Friends will expand the sale by putting up tents so that the sale will go on, no matter what the weather.
In the meantime, clean out your book shelves. The Friends need your donations to ensure that the sale continues as a premier event. Bring in books and audio visual items that are in good condition (no moldy items or textbooks, please.) Donations are being accepted during the library's open hours. Bring them to the first floor. Book sale chairman Brian Smith will also be looking for volunteers to assist with the sale. Call the library or stop in to assist with volunteering. Sign up at the first floor Circulation Desk. The Friends need sorters and folks to work the days of the sale. To join the Friends or for more information, click here. Thanks for your help! |

Haddonfield Garden Club Donates a Statue to the Library!
Jolyne Dalzell, President of the Garden Club; Susan Briant, Library Director, and Pat Gargano, Project Chair, admire the statue of the Reading Boy. |
The Haddonfield Garden Club continues to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The group celebrated 100 years in 2006. Pat Gargano, Project Committee Chair and the Executive Board recently decided to place a statue in front of the library. It was placed last week. It is of a little boy reading and sits in the reading garden.
The statue is bronze. A plaque and landscaping will be added to commemorate the Garden Club and their anniversary and many fine works to beautify Haddonfield. The Garden Club also decorates the library each week with fresh flowers, as well as at the holiday season. The Library Board and staff thank the Garden Club for adding the statue. | Budget Issues Necessitate Some Reductions in Library Services
The Library Board has had to make some tough decisions due to reduced local and state funding for libraries. In order to close a budget gap of close to $73,000, these actions will be needed to meet the 2010 library budget. The library will close on 12 days from September - December. These closed days will be furlough days for the staff (staff will not be paid.) Additionally, staff will not receive raises and longevity payments are frozen at 2009 levels. The library will close at 6 pm instead of 9 pm on Friday evenings beginning Sept. 10.
A new schedule of fines and fees will go into effect in September. Fines will go to .10 a day from .05 a day per item. There will be an amnesty from Sept. 1-12 to give the public every opportunity to clear accounts before the new fines and fees begin.
The Library Board regrets any inconvenience for the public. Every effort was made to balance available funding and resources with the community's needs for library services. A careful analysis was done on patterns of use and a survey of current practices in NJ libraries was conducted to arrive at this course of action. The library is better positioned now to meet 2011, which is anticipated to be another very difficult budget year. More information on these changes will be publicized on the library's website and in local media. For more information, contact the library director at sbriant@haddonfieldlibrary.org or call Susan Briant at 856-429-1304. |
