Greetings!

This month we are celebrating National Library Week from April 11-17. There will be many activities going on, including amnesty from fines. We will also have local author Pam Jenoff give a book talk on  "Almost Home" on April 14.
 
The Children's Dept. will be sponsoring a contest to find the ways that the library saves money for children and adults. Luloo returns for Earth Day.
 
The Friends of the Library are having their annual program on April 18. Dave Kinney will discuss his book "The Big One."
 
If you like downloadable books, you can now download them to your Sony Book Reader, I-Pod and other portable devices.
 
Our display in April celebrates the Lions Club and its fine work for improving vision.

FOOD FOR FINES DURING NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
 
 THE FOOD BANK OF SOUTH JERSEY is partnering with the library to collect food for those in need. Containers will be placed in the adult and children's departments to collect these items:

Meat: canned ham, chicken, stews, chili
Fish: tuna, salmon, sardines, other
Vegetarian: peanut butter, macaroni & cheese

National Library Week is April 11-18
National Library Week is an annual celebration of our nation's libraries and librarians. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special- participate.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. 
The Haddonfield Public Library has a variety of activities planned.
  • All week - fines on borrowed materials will be forgiven. Please bring a canned good or two to donate to those in need. All food collected will be given to the Food Bank of NJ. Read about the most needed items at left.
Pam Jenoff 
Pam Jenoff Talks about her book, "Almost Home" on April 14, from 7-8:30 pm
Pam Jenoff will discuss her latest fiction work "Almost Home" on April 14, at 7 pm at the library. This book explores the immediate aftermath of World War 2, including the danger and poverty of Eastern Europe as it falls under communism. 
Pam Jenoff was born in Maryland and raised outside of Philadelphia .She received her Master's in history from Cambridge University in England. Pam worked as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. This position gave Pam a unique opportunity to witness and participate in operations at senior levels of government, including helping the families of Pan Am Flight 103 victims secure their memorial at Arlington National Cemetery and attending ceremonies to commemorate the 50th anniversary of World War 2 at Bastogne and Corregidor. Pam is also the author of The Kommandant's Girl and The Diplomat's Wife. Pam will sign copies of her book, which will be on sale. The program is free but call 429-1304 to register. Save money at library 

The Children's dept. wants to know - how do you save money by using the library? 
 
The Children's Dept. will celebrate National Library Week and Children's Book Week from May 10-16 by asking children and adults to give us the best ways that the Haddonfield Library saves you money. Forms will be available at both circulation desks for children age 8 and up and for adults. Fill them out and put them in the treasure boxes. The winning entries will be chosen to appear on our website. The winners wll receive money-saving prizes. Join the fun April 11- May 16!
Sara O'Brien 
Luloo is Back for Earth Day!   
 
 
Local songwriter/performer/artist Sara O'Brien brings a variety of elementary school age programs to Haddonfield Public Library in a series of after school, Saturday or summertime workshops. Programs have included Tree Huggin' Arts and Crafts and Read, Write, Rock. 
 

In celebration of Earth Day,  Luloo will be at the Library for an Earth Craft Workshop on Wednesday, April 21 at 3:30PM. Come decorate  Eco-friendly crafts including a stainless steel water bottle (Back 2 Tap) with a neoprene cooler cover. There is a $10.00 supply fee. Call 429-1304 or visit the library to sign up kids age 5-12.  Luloo visits the library because of The Friends of the Haddonfield Public Library.
 
Kids Yoga with Luloo will begin again on Saturdays at 10:00AM starting May 1 through June 5 in the meeting room or on the lawn for kids 3 up. There is a $15.00 supply fee for the 6 week program. Big One 
Join David Kinney for an Afternoon with the Haddonfield Friends of the Library on April 18
 
 The Haddonfield Friends of the Library invite you to attend an exciting book signing with local author Dave Kinney on Sunday, April 18, from 2-4 pm at the Markheim Arts Center on the corner of Lincoln and Walnut Streets in Haddonfield. David is the author of "The Big One". Kinney will take you on a journey of the pursuit of a great fish. You will encounter colorful characters with salty stories. Whether you are a fishing fan or not, you will find the narratives and characters of "The Big One" rich, intriguing, weird and wonderful. Kinney is a Pulitizer Prize winning journalist who has written for the Star Ledger, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Associated Press.
 
  Meet the author, attend a book-signing, participate in a drawing and view the Cheltenham Print Makers Exhibit. Meet the Haddonfield Friends of the Library at their annual gathering. These are the folks who support the library's programs and in many other ways.
Overdrive Downloadable Books 
Download Books to Your I-Phone, Sony Reader, or other portable device @your library
 
 The library subscribes to OverDrive, which makes downloading digital media easy for  you. A varied collection of thousands of books are available for check out, download and enjoyment on your PC, I-Pod, portable phones, Sony book reader, and other devices. You can download software to use in accessing the  titles from www.haddonfieldlibrary.org
 
You will need  your library card and the appropriate free digital media software. This software includes Adobe Digital Editions or the OverDrive® Media Console™ for Windows® or Mac®.   Digital media can be transferred to supported mobile devices (such as iPod®, Zune®, and Sony® Reader™, as well as PDAs & Smartphones and other MP3 players). Many audio titles may be burned to CD (transfer and burn permissions vary by title).  Best of all, items are automatically returned, so there are no late fees or lost materials. You can now check out up to 8 books at a time. This is a cooperative service made possible by the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative, the Haddonfield Public Library and other participating libraries.
