Greetings! falling leaves

October means fall is here. The library and Haddonfield Friends of the Library will be attending Fall Festival on Oct. 17, to meet with you. Please stop by our booth and find out what is new and exciting with the library and Friends! We enjoy meeting with you in the community. Our staff was at the Haddonfield school system Back to School evenings recently. It was great to meet with so many parents in "school".
The Friends book sale on Sept. 12 and 13, was very successful. Read about that herein. Our special thanks go to the Friends and community for making the sale so great!
Come see us soon at the library! Check out our many children's programs below.

book sale
Friends Book Sale a Spectacular Success with Help of the Community!
The Friends Annual Book Sale, on Sept. 12 and 13, was a stunning success. The sale went for two days this year. The Friends had large tents so that the sale could go on - rain or shine. The community responded overwhelmingly with pristine donations of books, CDs and DVDs. The tradition of people volunteering to execute the sale flourished. About 3 dozen people helped over the 2 days. The youngest was Matthrew Squadrito Moskovitz. Students from the National Honor Society helped, as did families and many others. The Friends and Library thank everyone for contributions ranging from book donations to your valuable time. Several people baked and all of the baked goods were sold. Proceeds are about $13,000, which the Friends will use on a variety of projects to improve the library.   The Friends enjoyed meeting so many of you at the sale.
The book sale was led by the Chairs Brian Smith and John Wolf. Chris Wolf, Bob Adams, President Phil Shapiro, and Susan Reed also donated a great deal of time in sorting and organizing the sale. Our special thanks go to these community leaders who have done this sale so capably for several years.
The Friends annual mailing for members will be in November. Please consider joining this group of "friends" who do so much to improve your community library.

architecture  Architects are making progress

The architectural firm of Arcari and Iovino continues to work on assessing the existing library building. The Borough Commissioners and Library Board charged the firm to evaluate the changes that would occur if the existing building were made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. They are also providing concepts for adding 7500 and 15,000 square feet to the existing building. The firm is working with a citizen advisory committee to have public input. More information will be forthcoming in the fall.
The architect is also assessing the lower level of the library to see if other improvements can be made to avoid future flooding, as the July 31, flash flood caused the children's department to be closed for six days.
Love your library Library Board of Trustees has vacancies for members

Wooden bowl
Steve Leichner, Wood Worker, gives program on October  28

Steve Leichner, a master wood turner, will give a a program at the library on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 pm. Steve enjoys crafting beautiful objects from the wood of local trees that would ordinarily end up in landfills, recycling centers, or fireplaces. Steve finds it is a challenge to identify the potential of a well chosen log and to shape it creatively on his lathe. Steve is a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School. He has been crafting wood since 2002 after taking a class. Some of Steve's work is on display at the library this month. Check out the lovely wooden bowls. The program is free but call 429-1304 to register.
