REV. BRENDA TO SPEAK; NINA SWANSON TO PERFORM

 Join us Sunday at 10 a.m. and enjoy the music and vocals of our very own Musical Director, Nina Swanson. Nina is known for her years of musical and theater work in the area, including Liar's Holographic Theatre and Tribute, an Iowa-based Christmas-themed trio that performs at Theatre Cedar Rapids. Most of all, Nina is known for supplying the musical harmonies and spirit that keep UCR a happening place! Rev. brenda will be giving the Sunday lesson, entitled, "Our Foundational Agreement." Also, it was suggested that since this is the fifth Sunday of the month, those that have a UnityCR T-shirt should wear it to Sunday's service, to add a lil' spice to this gorgeous autumn we are having!

  

VISITATION AND SERVICE FOR PAT KENNEDY

Long time UnityCR member Patricia Kennedy made her transition on Friday, September 21, 2012. A visitation will be held at UnityCR on Friday, September 28, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. A life memorial service will be held at UnityCR on Saturday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a social gathering in the CommUnity Room.

 

DOUG WICK BENEFIT BREAKFAST OCTOBER 6 

Please join us for a special Doug Wick benefit breakfast in the CommUnity Room on Saturday, October 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. Proceeds will go to help ease the Wick family's burden of medical expenses. The cost is $5 for pancakes, sausage patties, fruit, and drink. Let's step up to the plate and help Doug and his family. In addition, they need help with meals. A group of friends called "Warriors for Doug" have set up a website for people to sign-up for providing meals for the family. Contact Lisa McGovern at hawkifamily@mchsi.com for details.

For three Saturdays (Oct 6, 13, and 20), Rev. Rick Nash is facilitating a class from 10 a.m. to noon. The title of the class is "Love - With An Attitude" and it will explore life's positives and negatives and how to best keep a positive attitude. While attitude isn't everything, it is very important to recognize one's feelings and the choices we have in determining how your day, week, and life will be.

"FEEDING THE POOR" MEETING ON OCT. 7 

Please remember that there will be a meeting about helping families in need on Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. There are things that UCR can do to support the existing efforts of other organizations in our community. This meeting will work on planning the next steps, and anyone interested is invited to join. It feels good to know that there are simple things we can do that WILL make a difference in people's lives.

Just a reminder that the Pampered Chef fundraiser hosted by UnityCR member Lisa Klostermann will take place next Sunday, Oct 7, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the CommUnity Room. There will be two ways for UnityCR to raise money:  20% of the proceeds from purchases will go to UnityCR; and $10 will go to UnityCR if you book your own party.
