Letter from the General Secretary

Philip Thatcher...A third thread that ran through our [Dornach] meetings concerned the life of the Anthroposophical Society-a thread that has been present in every General Secretaries' meeting in which I have taken part. The task of the Anthroposophical Society is to nurture the life of the soul, in the individual and in society, based on a true knowing of the spiritual world. Such a society must affirm the spiritual freedom of each individual member; cultivate trust and confidence between members; make possible encounters and meetings of members through which karma can work; work toward a culture of peace out of each of us working through his or her inner battles; be at the service of humanity out of the spirit of our time...Read the full letter

$100Many worthy initiatives in Canada are struggling because of a lack of capital for land acquisition, but there is hope!  In this issue, we feature an article about the Agri-Cultural Renewal Cooperative, which is well on the way to acquiring 200 acres of farmland using innovative financing techniques.  Click here to read the article.

November Art Therapists Conference (AAATNA)
AAATNA

- by Vibeke Ball

"...It was observed that we had a profound experience of being in the presence of spiritual guidance, that we were able to give something meaningful to another person who was carrying a destiny with life long health challenges and that we had reversed the therapy process by being the ones "doing the work", offering it up and being changed on the way. The person who received the healing had a profound sense of awe in seeing her challenges as if from the outside and being able to become more objective...."

"Crisis of Money" Conference
- by Douglas Wylie

Money

"...John Alexandra used the analogy of a "scrim" that is used in theatre, which both "hides and reveals" to illustrate how the countenance of the social organism does not show what is working behind it and he challenged us to become conscious of this behind-the-scenes Spirit.  He also used the analogy of a seed, with huge inherent, yet unseen creative potential, growing to a finished "knowing".  This knowing is an"un-creating" because when something is known it is finished and the creative element ends just as the blossom is the end of the plant growth.  Rudolf Steiner's 3-folding ideas have this quality...." Letter from Cornelius Pietzner

Dear Friends,

Even as we prepare for the Christmas Conference on the theme of Temple Building and the social formation within the Dramas at the Goetheanum (and the performance of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Mystery Dramas, with the latter premiering on January 1, 2010), we are aware that the last weeks for many groups of people have been particularly marked by human illness and also death. This creates a special mood and awakeness towards the mysteries connected with human destiny.

I recently wrote about the conferences concerning near-death experiences and death and dying that took place at the Goetheanum. These have been surrounded by challenging developments for a number of members and friends around the world, and we share and carry the deep questions of human karma that accompany such experiences and situations. As we near the end of the year we are also grateful for the mood of the coming Light that penetrates into the darkness. We can appreciate the earnestness of so much that takes place in the world and around us, and particularly in each of us as we turn towards the New Year in a few short weeks.

With this issue of Anthroposophy Worldwide the Executive Council at the Goetheanum would like to send you our best regards for a fruitful Advent Season and a light-filled Christmas.

Sincerely
Cornelius Pietzner
