Dear members,

Here is a photo of a few Whitehorse Conference participants who were able to tear themselves away from some pretty amazing conversations to pose for a photo.  This issue of the News contains several contributions about the Conference - a "Nachbereitung" of sorts.  No doubt there will be further contributions in subsequent issues.   -Ed

The Guardian Of The Northern Gate
GuardianThis poem was inspired by the author's attendance at the recent Conference of the North in Whitehorse, entitled: "Encircling Light, Expectant Silence."  - by Ron MacFarlane

Tribute and Appeal For Meta Williams - By Monica Gold
Meta WilliamsMeta:

We have made a new friend,
Her laughter purified by suffering,
Her speech transformed through tears
Reached deeply into our Being.
Breathing stopped for moments,
Hearts felt touched - and peace
Found a new place.

Tending Toward Silence
Tending Toward SilenceArlin McFarlin was Ron MacFarlane's host in Whitehorse.  She has recently produced a 10-min video which contains many surprising echoes of our conference themes. "Set in the Yukon, Tending Toward Silence weaves a story of three different moments: time in the hospital, a summer spent collecting rocks and another reality, both mysterious and sustaining. The film bridges the world between life and death and suggests that our last journey has possibilities that we may not have considered." You can order a copy for approx. $30. from Moving Images Distribution
Whitehorse Reflections From Debbie Allen
...this was a conference in the social realm designed to cultivate community. To that end it was most successful as the air was fairly palpable with talk of new initiatives.

"Designed" because it was clear to me that a great deal of thought went into the planning of the conference: from the bus schedules, day trips, accommodation, conversation groups, work shops, and group singing all contributed to meeting the greatest number of people in the short time together...Read more

Meeting Meta - By Heidi Vukovich
She came alone, but her ancestral guides were with her.
Was this the secret of her quiet strength and her presence
leaving us spellbound in anticipation?
Who did not shed a tear in the delivery of silence amidst plain words.
Knowing not the pleasure of self-seeking, her pain came alone.
Uncluttered, it tore into well-protected spaces
and rippled forth. ...Read more

Youth and Elders - By Dave Luborsky
...Out of the conversations at the conference in the Yukon this Summer it was evident that something was being missed. Could a meeting of the different ages contribute towards uncovering and bringing to light impulses that have not been able to come into being in the older generation, and are in danger of being stifled in the new?  Read more

Letter From Cornelius Pietzner

BrendaDear  Friends,

With this issue of Anthroposophy Worldwide, we signal the start of the autumn season at the Goetheanum. The summer has included an extensive spectrum of events in which members and friends have gathered from different parts of the world in different parts of the world. Three examples of this are the conference "Encircling Light" in Whitehorse, Yukon, Northwest Canada which brought many people from across Canada, the USA, indigenous peoples and guests from the Goetheanum and most Scandinavian countries for intensive days of work and celebration. This notable event was a culmination of many of preparation led by Philip Thatcher of Canada. There were also two School of Spiritual Science Conferences for members of the Class-one in July at the Goetheanum, and another in August in London. The latter had guests from South Africa, the USA, Australia, Rumania, New Zealand and other countries. There are, of course, many other examples of important events where anthroposophical substance is deepened and researched.

A signal for the renewed activity at the Goetheanum is the colloquia and conferences that begin in early September, including events related to sustainability and confronting evil, the element of speed in business enterprises, and the upcoming Michaelmas Conference, co-hosted with the Camphill Movement, on Community building.

We extend a warm welcome to you  to be in contact with the Goetheanum or to visit for an event.

Sincerely,

Cornelius Pietzner
