Positive Thoughts and Positive Guidance

Words of Wisdom from Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji

Beads of Truth, Summer 1984 #13, Volume II

Handwritten SGGSI don't have a great urge to teach you much about me, because after all, what is important is the source from where I have learned. I have learned from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib and you can learn from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as well.

The progressive way to become great is very straightforward then. The biggest power on this planet it thought and Siri Guru Granth gives you all thoughts, all sorts of thoughts on every aspect. So, where is the strength? Strength is when you have a negative thought and immediately your consciousness releases a positive thought. And from where can positive thought come? From some teacher? From some experience? The positive thought can come from Siri Guru Granth, because that is only positive thoughts.

There may be hundreds of thousands of suns and hundreds of thousands of moons but without the Guru there is total darkness. The question is: Why Guru? Because Guru's word can be trusted. Man's words we cannot trust. I'm not going to automatically trust anything that anybody says. I always hear a person and then I put the touchstone of the Siri Guru Granth against that saying. Then I realize that if it is according to what Guru says, fine. If not, fine for him.

Experiencing and Understanding Gurbani

Yogi Bhajan BWThe Guru's word (Gurbani) is what the Guru spoke. It is the imprint of the essence of God. It is the pathway to God. If the ordinary human being speaks it, it will always elevate him to that state of consciousness of the Guru. The Guru's consciousness is united with God, so the person will automatically get united with God, if he speaks the same words. It is a scientific and direct way to unite the finite with the Infinite Consciousness. The hypothalamus will get the same tingling. The impulsation of the pituitary will function the same way and get the other glands to secrete also in the same way as it was in the body of Guru Nanak.

Gurbani is nothing but a total illustrated, facilitated science of naad for human knowledge. It is an individual effort. Read Gurbani in the way Guru says it, and understand it, and you will be in such ecstasy you will not believe it! Concentration on the construction of the word, and the sound is the proper way to recite Gurbani. As you are creating the sound, the meaning will automatically come to you, now or later. It is just a matter of time and space. You must listen to your own construction of the Gurbani. This is the technical way in Naad Yoga.

The Invention of the Gurmukhi Script

Understanding the History of the Shabad Guru: Part 2

By Ek Ong Kaar Kaur Khalsa

Illuminated PageMany people who practice Kundalini Yoga as taught by the Siri Singh Sahib - Yogi Bhajan love the mantras and chants. But where did these chants come from? What language are they written in?

Kundalini Yoga often uses chants taken from the language of Gurmukhi.  As far as languages go, Gurmukhi is relatively new. It's less than 500 years old.

Guru Angad, the second Sikh Master, invented the Gurmukhi script. Guru Nanak named Guru Angad to succeed him as the Guru for the Sikhs in 1539. Gurmukhi means "from the mouth of the Guru." The Gurmukhi script accomplished something very special. It allowed people to be able to read and pronounce the songs written by Guru Nanak. Up until that point in history, the dialect spoken by Guru Nanak and his contemporaries had no written equivalent. Written languages were reserved for the powerful, the wealthy and the high-castes. There was no writing or reading based on the common language.

My Grandfather's Story

by Inni Kaur

from SikhChic.com

Banagala SahibOn my last trip to Delhi, I sweet-talked my father into recording the family history. The recording sessions were not easy. There were moments of intense silence; moments when tears flowed; moments of laughter and moments filled with gratitude.

It was a very special time and I will cherish it forever.

This story is about the man who brought my father, Bawa Gurnam Singh, into this world -  my grandfather, my knight in shining armor."Dad, tell me about Pitaji," I ask, as we begin with the recording.

"Your grandfather, my father - Bawa Hari Singh - was born in 1898 in Chakwal, Panjab," Dad starts. "His father, Kalyan Singh, died when Hari Singh was only five years old. He was raised by his three older brothers, Jivan Singh, Bishen Singh and Bhagwan Singh. Jivan Singh and Bishen Singh were saints."   Continue reading...
