Yogi Bhajan Quote of the Month |

When you get beyond your thoughts, your intuition gives you
guidance. Move quickly. That's when poverty stops and prosperity starts, and
life is really happy. You have been given light in your eyes to see the light
of God. You have been given the tongue to speak the Glory of God. God is what
created you. Be very loyal to yourself. Create a vacuum to be filled by
prosperity.

The Power of Tithing
|
By Holy Kaur Khalsa, MCC
For someone who acknowledges themselves as a student on a specific spiritual path, financial tithing is a way to offer gratitude to, and to honor those who have gone before us and have delivered these powerful teachings and tools to our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls in such a way that our lives have been deeply enriched. Much energy was given, so that we could each have the transformative spiritual experiences that we have had. And while it is beautiful and powerful to receive the fruits of that giving; it is also another level of commitment to the path and to oneself, to choose to become one of the people who is, in whatever small or large ways we can, supporting it. In addition to teaching these tools and practicing them ourselves, tithing is a way that we can ensure the continuation of that spiritual path, into the future. It is an energetic "giving back" to our path, from a place of overflowing, authentic, and deep gratitude. This is not to say that our chosen practice is the only way that we can learn and grow spiritually. That certainly would be a narrow view. Simply put, tithing is an honoring of the enormous gift that one's spiritual path is in one's life.
About 6 years ago, in a Khalsa Council session, we were asked to reflect on what specific effects the Siri Singh Sahib and these teachings has had on us. That was a profound experience for me, because as I began to list what has entered my life as a direct result of this path, I was completely overwhelmed with gratitude. Tithing is one way to practically and powerfully express that deep gratitude.
Finally, the secret that regular tithers will tell you is, that once you begin to contribute to the financial flow of your dharma, you are showered with treasures, both material and ethereal, beyond your wildest dreams.

Dasvandh: One-Tenth Part of Your Sadhana
Yogi Bhajan lecture excerpts from 10/11 and 10/24/2001
|
"The situation on this planet earth
is a very wonderful thing, because in the beginning there was nothing, then
there was something and then there was everything and in the end there will be
nothing. That is the law of the
cosmos. Nobody can change it. Because this is the law of the earth,
therefore humans experience the same thing, in the beginning human was nothing,
then human was something and then human became everything, then all of a sudden
human is nothing. To incept that concept
that there is something for a human here and hereafter because we are not aware
of the hereafter, we feel that Dasvandh, one tenth is a part of not us but of
that something to which we are nothing.
So basically that's the feeling in this time when we are very patriotic
and we are very real and we have lot of things to do. May I remind you that pay your Dasvand
regularly so you may belong to the class of people, which has something. In spite of the fact they will become
nothing, this goodwill, good work and good participation will go on
forever. Don't ask me, I don't have
anything. I gave it away. It belongs to you and you belong to me and
this belonging and longing is a constant process in which we learn how to live
in love. What is an action? One which has love and affection and that is
Dasvandh in the Khalsa way."
"We are discussing a very spiritual
question today that we have to believe what we have to understand, we have to
go into the depth of it that whatever God gives us for our purposes, that is
with karma. But we who understand
prosperity, have to take one-tenth of it and give it back for the welfare of
the Dharma so that it can be done in a way that it serves the purpose of those
who need it or it can build the great glory and the concept of God, which we
like to decorate, we like to beautify, we like to expand ourselves, we want to
build it up. That is the theory of
Dasvandh, one-tenth part of your sadhana.
It is actually a part of you. It
is something, which you collect not for here, but hereafter. It's an investment. You seed a seed of prosperity, of
flourishing, from growing, from being, and it is for that many days as we live
here and God gives us and whatever God gives us we take one-tenth of it and
honestly and sincerely give back to our future, our conception of life that
there is a life before and there is a life after, and within this lifetime we
have to follow this very sacred rule.
Sometimes in our fluctuations, we feel different, but that is the time
of test. That's why we really have to be
strong and true. We have to see that we
will continue this noble, gracious, divine act of participating in the
betterment of our own future here and hereafter. Sat Nam."
