YB Video Lecture Still

In this lecture entitled, "Head of a Saint, Heart of a Soldier," from the "Light of the Shabad Guru" series, the Siri Singh Sahib discusses the nature of a Sikh.  He says:
"Hope is a virtue of the man, it walks on two things:  courage and compassion.  Hope is the virtue of the Sikhs, it is engrained into our genes. We bow at the Harimandir, the temple of God, but at the very gate of it there is the Akal Takht, the throne of the Infinite.  It is the life of a saint and of a soldier.  Actually, what we need is the head of a saint and the heart of a soldier."

When the Divine needs to be figured out,
Ability needs to be experienced,
Divinity needs to be practiced,
And the human wants to see the light, the balance of Libra creates harmony with ecstasy of consciousness
To preserve the dignity of all living creatures.
The domain of Libras exists
In that sustained state of consciousness
Where the law of life is balanced.
In that existence the human can serve
the dark and the light
With the equality of love.

October 2009

greetingsGreetings from Ravi Kaur, Executive Director

Over Guru Ram Das' Birthday, members of Sikh Dharma International, Sikhnet, Sikh Dharma of NM and Cherdi Kala went to Northern California to host a kirtan program, a Khalsa Woman's Workshop and a Fundraising dinner hosted by Siri Pritam Kaur who has lived there for over 30 years. We had a great time with the Indian sangat there talking, sharing and inspiring each other. The Gurdwara kirtan program was so uplifting with stories and shabds of Guru Ram Das that went into the night. The next day we had about 30 women at the workshop where we taught yoga, led meditations, danced bhangra, and shared indepth discussions on living a spiritual life. I was so touched by the women there - with their yearing for a deeper experience of their spirituality, with their generosity of spirit, and with their ability to easily laugh and love. That night we held a fundraising dinner where Sikh Dharma International and Sikhnet presented the work it does around the world to inspire them to be involved and be on this journey hand in hand.

yc teachingI came back to the office revitalized and inspired - especially during this time of Fall - where the leaves are changing, the weather is sweet and cool and we get knee deep into our 4th quarter of work.
We'll be focusing on launching our Discover Sikh Dharma video series (inspriational vingettes of leaders and teachers around the world sharing their experiences) and year end programs; free Prosperity teleclasses, the Mala Project; and all the strategic planning needed for 2010. There is always a strong sense of change during this time for me. A time to assess the year past and get ready for the year ahead. I look forward to the months ahead and finishing up this year with a bang!
Thanks

SGGS Mool Mantra
At the end of his life, in 1708, Guru Gobind Singh passed the mantle of the Guruship to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. This ended the time of the physical masters of the Sikhs and began the reign of the Shabad Guru, itself, as the Spiritual Light and Guide for all Sikhs. This month, we celebrate the 301st anniversary of this occasion!
