Awakening of the Khalsa

Two years ago, in anticipation of this 25th Anniversary of the June 6, 1984 attacks, Sikh Dharma International began the process of making historic Gurdwara lectures by the late Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji available to the public.
These particular lectures were given during 6th of the month Gurdwaras. In them, the Siri Singh Sahib spoke about the spiritual sacrifice of the Akal Takhat and what that sacrifice meant for the Sikhs and the future of humanity. He explained in detail the Sikh concept of Akal Moorat: that a human being is the personification of the Infinite, Deathless Creator; and how the Akal Takhat was built by Guru Hargobind Singh so that the spirit of humanity could live free and sovereign on the earth.

Honoring the 25th Anniversary of the Akal Takhat Martyrdom
|
Greetings from Ek Ong Kaar Kaur, Creative Director
|
|
On June 6, 1984, the sacred throne of the Sikhs, the Akal Takhat, was attacked and destroyed. On that day, and in the days and years to follow, thousands of innocent Sikhs in India lost their lives in terrible circumstances. As we approach the 25th Anniversary of this event on Saturday, we feel an inner need for remembering, re-telling and, in some cases, reliving the fear and grief of that time.
Historically, the faith tradition of Sikh Dharma has proven itself capable of enduring immense sacrifice. It is a tradition that holds the promise for tremendous healing and hope, even in the face of the worst atrocities. As we honor this 25th Anniversary, let us remember those who gave their lives in the senseless brutality. But let us also remember those who have courageously walked forward since then, searching for ways to heal themselves, their loved ones and their community.
On this 25th Anniversary, we invite you to pray with us - to pray for the healing of those who suffered and lived through the horrors of that time. And to pray for a better tomorrow where all people shall embrace their common humanity and live together in peace, prosperity and bliss.
SS Ek Ong Kaar Kaur Khalsa Creative Director, Sikh Dharma International

Some of these articles are from historical material published soon after June 6, 1984. Other essays are recent, written for this 25th anniversary. We invite you to listen to these many voices - voices which capture the pain and hope of a spiritual nation.
