LIGHT BULB TEST - Entertainment or Enlightening?

In this issue of our newsletter, we have released a much-requested video demonstrating the effects of transient voltage surges on two different types of light bulbs with and without a SPD attached.
It is, without doubt, very entertaining. Everybody likes to see stuff "blown up", so the unprotected testing of the incandescent bulb gets everybody's attention. However, the test demonstration that is more important is the one where the same type of bulb is exposed to the same transient energy with the SPD connected and suffers no damage. It doesn't have the same entertainment value, but it demonstrates the desired result, an operating light bulb.
Enter the compact fluorescent bulb. This is the type of bulb that is being mandated for future use by all Americans. It is much more energy efficient than the incandescent bulb, consuming as little as 20% of the energy required by an incandescent bulb, with the same light output. Its life expectancy is as much as seven times greater than that of the incandescent bulb. The question is, "is it more resistant to transient voltage surges?" Read more...

May 17, 2012 Energy Control Systems was awarded the Presidential "E" Award for Exports by U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary John Bryson at the White House in Washington, D.C. The "E" Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
"Our exports to the international marketplace continues to be the foundation of our sales growth, and we are honored to receive the "E" Award," said Jeff Edwards, Energy Control Systems' President and CEO. "When we first began exporting in 1999, export sales accounted for 27 percent of our total sales. "Over the past 15 to 20 years, exporting has risen from nil to roughly 65% of our annual revenue, and as we open new markets across Africa, South America and Southeast Asia, we expect that percentage to continue to rise.

Rich Hotchkiss is the President of the Engineering & Manufacturing Division for Surge Suppression Incorporated in Brooksville, Florida. Approaching 23 years in the surge protection industry; his knowledge and experience range from manufacturing, design and strategy to management. Rich has an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology, Bachelor's Degrees in Management (Major) and Marketing (Minor). His graduate work is in Business Psychology. In his position with SSI, he leads our team at the factory by teaching, growing people and making sure they have the tools and skills needed to succeed at the highest level. This has been evidenced by the continued praise from our customers and sales team.
Rich started with Surge Suppression Incorporated in 2001 after a lengthy career with Innovative Technology, Inc., where he launched his career in surge protection at the ground floor level. His many hats included Plant Manager, Project Manager, Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Business Development.
When not working for Surge Suppression Incorporated, Rich enjoys spending time with his wife, Colleen, and son, Trey, at their home in Brooksville. With any additional free time, he enjoys various outdoor activities including farming, shooting, football, hunting and fishing. Rich is currently training to be a volunteer Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff for Hernando County for the purpose of serving the community in this way.
