A Big Thank You from ASDA

By Kim Schneider,
communications editor

This summer will mark my four-year anniversary on ASDA staff. I've been fortunate to work with hundreds of volunteers during that time. As staff liaison to the editorial board, I've met some of the most well rounded individuals I've ever known.

I've seen two editor-in-chiefs become president of the association. Another editor-in-chief built ASDA's blog from scratch. I've had editors who were chapter president or an elite marathon runner, a husband, a wife and a dad. This year the editorial board is well balanced with a new crop of talented writers including a journalist, a serious bookworm and an award-winning blogger.

I've met pilots, parliamentarians, athletes and talented speakers who were all dental students volunteering with ASDA. Not only is it amazing that a dental student has time for such diverse hobbies and interests, but it's a great benefit to the association. Your time, your ideas and your talent make the association strong.

ASDA's central office staff feels so lucky to work with such talented individuals. Your contributions as a volunteer, whether they are at a local or national level, make our jobs meaningful each day.

Winston Churchill said, "we make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give." This sums up the need for associations and the volunteers that run them. When your dental school days are over, you'll make a living as a practicing dentist. But dentistry alone won't define your life. Your presence in your community, participation in medical outreach and of course, your commitment to organized dentistry, will define you.

On behalf of the organization, I'd like to offer a big thank you to all ASDA volunteers. No matter how big or small your role, your contribution to ASDA helps us fulfill our mission to dental students. Thank you so much for all that you do.
