Details on the issues and an agenda will be posted on the Lobby Day website and will be sent to Lobby Day attendees. Contact Meghan Keelean if you have any questions.
Spring Leadership Conference in Chicago for New Leaders
Newly elected and appointed leaders will meet in Chicago April 9-10 for the Spring Leadership Conference. Leaders will participate in an orientation session to prepare them for the new leadership year. ASDA's Councils will meet to discuss their work for the year related to ASDA's strategic plan and resolutions passed by the House of Delegates in Anaheim. The conference will be an informative and motivational way to start another great ASDA year!
May 31: Deadline for Insurance Enrollment Challenge
Congratulations to leaders from all the chapters with 80% or more of members enrolled in both the ADA life and disability insurance plans. Even if you didn't get a check at Annual Session, every chapter that hits the dual enrollment target by May 31 will receive $500 ---- so it's definitely not too late to shoot for the goal!

Contact Leslie Franklin at ADA Insurance Plans for anything that might help put your chapter over the top ---- enrollment tips, best practices, an updated roster of members who have not yet enrolled. Members can even enroll online, which is the quickest way to activate coverage.
Show Your Take on Ethics ---- Dental Student Ethics Video Contest
What does ethics in action look like? You can decide! The Student Ethics Video Contest is underway. Students can create short videos that demonstrate one or more of the ideas described in the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct. Get started on those video boards now-submissions are due July 31, 2011 to the ADA Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs (CEBJA).

The grand prize winner will receive $2,000 and 1st Honorable Mention receives $1,000. Both will be displayed at the 2011 ADA Annual Session in Las Vegas.

Keep in mind:
  • Videos should not be more than 4 minutes in length
  • Interpretations can be in the form of drama, comedy, documentary, interview(s), public service announcement, music video or any combination
  • Use of trademarked or copyrighted material without documented permission is prohibited
For complete contest rules, entry forms and other information, contact Earl Sewell.
New Chapter Leadership
This time of year, many chapters start electing their new officers for the year. Be sure to update the central office with this information so you receive important updates for your chapter. Please send the names and email addresses for your new leaders to Danielle Bauer, Chapter Relations Manager.

2011 Membership Update
As of March 10, 15,202 predoctoral, 541 predental, 56 associate and 14 international members have joined for the 2011 membership year. If you would like a list of your chapter's current members, please go to the website and click on "Membership Directory" under the Member Resources tab. You can select your chapter's name and it will bring up an up-to-date list of members. You are able to download the members (including their names, email, graduation year, and ADA #) into an Excel spreadsheet.
Changing Addresses? Let Us Know!
As summer approaches, many students, especially seniors, will be moving. Because publication labels are pulled in advance and third-class bulk mail is not forwarded, it is imperative to notify the central office of new addresses as soon as possible. Remind members that ASDA News is not published in June and July. To change your address, go online, email, or call (800) 621-8099, ext. 2795.
2011 Membership: FAQs
I am graduating from dental school in May. What happens with my ASDA and ADA membership?
Since ASDA's membership runs on a calendar year, you are still a predoctoral member of ASDA until December 31, 2011. This means, you are eligible for the full benefits of ASDA, including health insurance, free life and disability insurance, and our publications. Be sure to update your contact information with ASDA so you can continue to receive your benefits.

ADA membership also runs on a calendar year so your student membership does not expire until December 31. However, now is the time to start planning your conversion from student to active ADA membership. You have several options, depending on your next step after graduation: 1) graduate student membership if you are going into a graduate program or residency; 2) tripartite membership through your state society, if you will be an associate, starting a practice, or faculty of a dental school; 3) federal dental service membership for those going into the armed forces or becoming a federal employee; and 4) provisional membership if you have graduated but haven't started a professional career yet. All categories have reduced rates. For details, click here.
