Looking back, National Health Center Week
Health centers throughout the U.S. celebrate National Health Center Week each year during the second week of August. It's an opportunity for the health centers to be recognized for the vital role they play in providing access to affordable, high quality, and cost-effective health care to underserved populations.
This year's theme for National Health Center Week was "Celebrating America's Health Centers: Turning Vision into Reality," and it celebrated the 45-year history of health centers in the U.S.
To commemorate the week at its Southern California sites, California's largest non-profit federally qualified health center, AltaMed Health Services, hosted congressional representatives at several clinics. As part of the visit, representatives read aloud to pediatric patients in support of Reach Out and Read school readiness program, in which many of the clinics participate.
I'm glad that our elected officials continue to take an interest in the health and school readiness of children, and I thank AltaMed for using National Health Center week to engage them in the effort.
