The Wonder of Learning: The Hundred Languages of Children
If you teach young children, you know there are many approaches to teaching that meet many different learning styles. One popular method is receiving local attention as part of a six-month art exhibit in Santa Monica. I encourage teachers, parents and children alike to visit this fun and educational display.
The Wonder of Learning: The Hundred Languages of Children is an innovative traveling exhibit telling the story of the Reggio Emilia educational approach. It uses a child-centered educational model that focuses on exploration, complex thinking, experiential learning and the social aspects of how children learn. Globally, Reggio Emilia, which originated in Italy, has attracted the attention of educators, researchers and those interested in early childhood education best practices.
Click here for more information about exhibit hours and location.
The 5,000-square-foot exhibit includes children's three-dimensional art displays, hands-on exercises, and professional development workshops. It's a wonderful opportunity for parents to get ideas about how to nurture their child's creativity, and for preschool educators to take lessons on integrating architecture and writing into their teaching for children as young as 3.
Children will also enjoy the exhibit as they can learn about light reflection and refraction in hands-on activities with projectors, objects and a light table. The Wonder of Learning exhibit is co-presented by First 5 LA partner, Para Los Niños and the First Presbyterian Nursery School in Santa Monica.
In addition to the ongoing exhibit, Para Los Niños is also hosting a three day initiative, The School as a Place of Community & Collaboration: The Community as a Context for Learning from Thursday, March 4 - Saturday, March 6. Click here for more information about this initiative stemming from the exhibit.
I hope you are able to attend and enjoy!
