Sesame Street's Families Stand Together In today's economic climate, about two out of three middle class families are at high risk of losing their financial security, and too often parents are being forced to make difficult decisions that affect their children's well-being. In response, the children's TV show Sesame Street recently ran a primetime special called Families Stand Together: Feeling Secure in Tough Times.
The hour-long special ran last week and was hosted by Al Roker from NBC's Today Show, his wife Deborah Roberts from the Lifetime Channel's Lifetime Live and the always popular puppet Elmo. Aimed at helping families with children ages 2 to 8, the TV program offered strategies and tips to promote children's physical and emotional well-being during a tough economic climate.
The program also included documentary footage of real American families who are living through difficult economic conditions, and encouraged positive strategies and modeling behavior for parents and care providers to support the entire family during insecure times. Although the show ran last week, you may view it online at www.sesameworkshop.org/toughtimes, and I encourage all of our stakeholders to take a look.
