 July 2010 |
Recently, I attended the annual meeting of IPREX, a global network of independent public relations firms, of which Vollmer is a long-time member. We gathered in Düsseldorf with new members from far and wide - Helsinki to Madrid, Sao Paulo to Milwaukee and Liverpool to Houston. Beyond the blend of accents, languages, time zones and practice areas, we learned more about each firm's capabilities and what sets us apart.
We also learned that we're remarkably similar. As entrepreneurs, we are focused on our business and clients, and, of course, we would like more of both! As employers, we worry about keeping our staffs energized, productive and loyal, while stretching for the best work of their lives. As leaders, we have our eyes focused on the future. What's the next evolution in corporate social responsibility? New rules of engagement in social media? Branding that is in tune with cross-cultural coding? Strategies for collaborative work?
This year Vollmer was the recipient of the IPREX "Grail," the International Award for Outstanding Performance in Communication Business, awarded to the firm that shared the most business with partners. It is a testament to collaboration, respect and trust in the partnership. The roaming award, pictured here, has resided in Germany, the U.K., Paris, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis and now Houston.
Lest I lead you to believe it was all work and no play, we were united in having fun outside the boardroom, as well. I leave you this link for further edification and learning.
Cheers!

- At some point, of course, the leak will be stopped, clean-up and reparations will be concluded, and the world will move on from this tragedy. But it's clear the energy industry will have to operate differently. The government will require it, and the public is demanding it.
