Happy Texas Independence Day
from Vollmer Public Relations, Stephen F. Austin and Helen Vollmer!

Clip-clop, clip-clop . . . . Can you hear it? For some people, this time of year is all about basketball with March Madness consuming time and attention. For others, it's the memory of Spring Break that tantalizes with the whiff of Coppertone and pina-coladas. March is also the month that Texans by birth and by choice celebrate Texas Independence Day. But here in Houston, hey-howdy, that clip-clop you hear is the call of trail riders making their way into the city. Yes on horseback. Yes along the freeway. There are rodeo parades, barbeque cook-offs, ropin' exhibitions, bull riding spectacles and plenty of boot scootin' across the dance floor. No matter if you've never actually been on a horse. Or own any handmade boots that make you stand tall. Or danced to the music from "Urban Cowboy" at the legendary Gilley's. It's country western time in the city, where rodeo is big business, big belts, big hats, big entertainment and big fun. (Did I mention big? Check it out at http://www.hlsr.com). Yee-Haw! **A Texan by choice who likes horses only from a distance and still doesn't own a real pair of cowboy boots but did date a bull rider in high school and even danced at Gilley's in its prime!
