5 Skills That Produce
 Extreme Accuracy

After working with thousands of Civilian and Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors for over 30 years and watching only a handful of their students shoot with absolute precision accuracy, I've identified five teaching skills that will give Instructor's to the ability to get their students' shooting with extreme accuracy.

1. An extreme strategy for effective training. An officer's life is often dependant on the effectiveness of his training!  Most departments take pride in their training programs.  If there was a teaching process that would give you an edge over the traditional firearms teaching methods and would give your students the skill to shoot with extreme precision accuracy under extreme conditions would you want to know about it?

Most firearms instructors are dependant on the traditional teaching process to get their students shooting accurately. Every Instructor is plagued by those few "problem shooters" in every Academy Class.  When the traditional method doesn't work; the success of the student is often left to chance.

On the other hand, a dynamic multi-dimensional teaching strategy is now available to instructors that gives them the ability and skills to teach directly to the student's unconscious.  There is a quick and sure way to appeal to every student's learning style and strategy so every one of your students can shoot with precision accuracy on the range and on the street.

By using a more flexible and reality-based dynamic multi-dimensional teaching strategy, you will assist in preventing the loss of many officers' lives by giving them the accuracy they need to defend themselves.

One recent LE Instructor that attended our Advanced LE Instructor Program stated in the beginning of class that he was highly skeptical and thought the idea of teaching to the unconscious was "voodoo".  When we did a baseline in the beginning of the program to identify the strengths of each instructors personal shooting skills, he was very challenged to keep any kind of a grouping what so ever.

By the end of the program he was shooting 1-hole groups, hitting reactive plates that appeared and disappeared in a split second and shot one of the tightest groups of all the attending instructors.  After just 3-days he told us he was now shooting better than he had ever shot in his life.  His last words to us were: "That Voodoo Really Works, Thank You So Much !"

Every Instructor wants that "Magic Bullet" that will get all their students' shooting accurately and consistently.  They are desirous of assuring that accuracy transfers to the street where it's needed most.  This new process is that "Magic Bullet" if you're interested?

"We then brought in two local police officer self proclaimed "problem" /trigger jerk shooters. (confirmed by their FI as "difficult" shooters that qualify by the skin of their teeth each time.) They both were shooting one hole groups at five yards and 2" groups at ten yards within one hour!  No kidding...I saw it."  Dan Hawk

2. An extreme teaching attitude.  Are you telling your students what you need to tell them, or what you think they should hear?  Believe it or not, there's a big difference.

Many Firearms Instructors couldn't teach a prodigy shooter how to hit the broadside of a barn.  The reason?  They are so stuck on what they're teaching they have no clue as to how the information is being received by the student.   Nothing short of a miracle (or a shotgun) could help their students.

Just as bad is an "I Know It All" attitude by instructors who are in charge of the firearms training for their department.  It has been hard enough to teach officers how to shoot, much less than learn from someone that is closed minded.  There is no difference between someone who knows it all and someone who has a closed mind.

I talked to someone last week who told me the firearms instructor at his department said they provided the "best" firearms training in the world and wasn't interested in any new firearms training methods.  Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

But I also talked to a Law Enforcement Officer last week who is now getting "everyone" he works with shooting 1-hole groups using this new teaching technology that puts him at the edge of his comfort zone.

And guess what?  He's on an extreme new path where he can reduce ammunition usage by over 50% and is getting superior results at a time when training budgets have been cut.  Has your department cut your training budget?

3. An extreme strategy for effective teaching. Shooting fast and accurately is a challenge for a number of reasons. The biggest problem I have seen with most firearms teaching techniques is lack of clear communication and a lack of understanding of the neuro psychology behind the shooting process.

The more excuses and complaints about "problem shooters" you hear from Instructors who are supposed to be responsible and "in charge", the more you know there's a teaching strategy problem.  The old cliché "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing" is perfect shorthand -- pardon the expression -- for what's underneath teaching strategy problems.  It's the left brain that controls the right side of the body, and the right brain that controls the left side of the body.  The more the instructor knows about how each side of the brain processes information, the more he will understand how to teach the marksmanship process. You probably guessed it by now; It's the mind that controls the body, and the body that controls the gun, and the gun that controls where the bullet impacts.  The root of all processes begins in the mind; more specifically the unconscious mind.

You can have a great firearms program and great pistols to shoot, but the officer's accuracy can fall apart if you didn't program the process to the student's unconscious.  It doesn't matter whether you are teaching someone how to shoot a pistol on the range or in force-on-force based training, or on the street; the only process that holds up under extreme conditions is a process that has been programmed to the unconscious.

Instructors who desire their students to achieve extreme accuracy work hard on fine-tuning their student's skill set until problems are solved, new problems are anticipated, and the skills are applied in real time simulations.  We are teaching instructors to be successful by focusing more on the psychological impact the training has on the student and controlling emotional based processes than on shooting techniques.

This is understandable; because they want their students to succeed.  What sets them apart from instructors teetering on the brink of failure or success is that they are able to identify the student's extreme motivational strategy of how they take in information and represent that information in terms of motor output.  They set the student up for success with their very first shots by having them shoot 1-hole groups.  They know that every shot that misses the intended mark takes the motivation out of the desire to succeed.  Doesn't it make sense not to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs?

4. An extreme teaching paradigm. I've been training Law Enforcement for a long time. Fifteen years ago I began writing a book I was going to call "Shooting For  A Change."  As I look back, I'm surprised I had anything to write about.

Back in the day, most Instructors' teaching processes were the equivalent of throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what would stick.  This certainly didn't match most of their student's learning strategies.

These days, we know exactly how to get the teaching process and the elements of marksmanship to stick.  My wife, a brilliant instructor who specializes in one-on-one instruction blows me away with how she can get 70 and 80 year old women who have never handled a gun shooting more accurately in just one hour than most Law Enforcement Officers will ever shoot in their entire career!   No Kidding.

I had a conversation last week with a very successful Instructor who teaches at one of the "Big Named Schools".  He's ready to embrace a more extreme teaching strategy, but he's not totally comfortable with working up close with people.

He's got a big paradigm shift to make and I'm ready to guide him through it. He's not wild about the idea of getting into someone's personal space much less into their head and reality.  I am helping him make that shift and I know he'll do what it takes to make the changes necessary to help his students maximize the learning experience and their accuracy.

Will you?

"Your advanced Instructor Development Course, "The Neuro-Psychology to instant Precision Accuracy" in State College PA was absolutely "Transformational".  In my opinion, it goes beyond the form of any training I have ever taken.  Your credentials are impeccable, and the course content and the presentation of curricula you and Sherrie have developed over the years and your joint teaching method using Neuro psychology is completely "Out of the Box".  You have taken the best of what has been taught over the years by some of the greats and gone not merely Transformational but Trans-dimensional, it was interesting, fun, and far beyond to the future of LE Firearms training.

I believe that those who train in your discipline and incorporate it into their respective departmental training, will allow them to deploy officers who are more confident and assured that they can handle any situation they may encounter. Most important, it will save lives."  Ken Delahunt

5. Extreme retention and an unforgettable learning experience. Watching halftime with my wife during the Superbowl, I found myself more absorbed in the commercials than the game.

The teams that were playing were the world's best (at that moment). The desire to watch the commercials and what was going to air next kept crawling across my mind regardless of what was happening during the game.

But how could I be less interested in the game?  Even after the game, the commercials will be indelibly etched into my memory for decades to come and yet I probably will not be able to tell you who won the Superbowl in 2010.

So... unforgettable learning experience?  What does this have to do with that?

As the Cameron Crowe teenage character says at the end of the movie "Almost Famous,":

"To begin with... everything."

My extreme teaching instructors aren't afraid to make some waves to make a point and claim some territory in the mindscape of the student.  They are willing to go "outside the box" in the way they present the information.  They only have seconds to impart a message that goes beyond where you are now, that is anywhere but there or where you've been before.  Our teaching process does that in the same way so it that resonates meaningfully within the process of firearms training.

Officers will retain the information and the accuracy, not just when they are practicing on the range, but when confronted by a confrontation.  They retain the skill and more importantly the unconscious mind will drive the shooting process at the unconscious level producing unprecedented accuracy under extreme conditions.  They retain the good, experience amnesia of the bad, bypass the ugly fact they may be taking a life, and will do so without hesitation so they can go home to their families.

When you combine an unforgettable teaching process that teaches to the unconscious, with an extreme teaching paradigm, an extreme strategy for effective training, an extreme teaching attitude, and an extreme strategy for effective training, you get... Extreme Precision Accuracy.

How can you achieve extreme precision accuracy and teach it to others?  There are are two ways: The hard way and the fast way.

The hard way is to take my formula, freely offered in this article, and figure out (in your spare time) how to apply it to your training process.  Get all five factors right, and you are headed to shooting 1-hole groups "Instantly".  Or, if you're already shooting 1-hole groups, now you'll be on the High Speed / Low Drag Express.

The fast way is to attend our 3-Day Advanced LE Instructor Course for Teaching the Neuro Psychology to Instant Precision Accuracy Course in Prescott Arizona on February's 22nd -  24th.   I still have openings.

In New York, I only have four slots left in the 3-Day Advanced LE Instructor Course on April 12th - 14th and only two slots left in the 2-Day Extreme Accuracy Course on  April 15th &16th.

Our 3-Day Advanced LE Instructor Course for Teaching the Neuro Psychology to Instant Precision Accuracy Course in Prescott, still has openings on April 26th - 28th and is already filling up.

You have to be willing to make the commitment to invest in yourself, and your students.  We guarantee this will be the most valuable investment you will ever make in your firearms training career.

If you are excited by the prospect of learning this process and accelerating your student's success, send me an email.  Answer these four questions:

1. Where is your accuracy now?

2. Where do you want it to be?

3. What's the most exciting thing to you about the Extreme Teaching Process "The Neuro Psychology to Instant Precision Accuracy"?

4. How would you rate yourself on implementation and follow-through?

I like answers which are specific, vivid, and colorful -- and show a great deal of seriousness and commitment.  Numbers are good.  And playful humor is certainly welcome as part of the mix.

You can send your answers to this special email address: [email protected]

If you're ready, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

"As an AZPOST Firearms Instructor and an Arizona police officer for almost thirty years, Insight firearms provides some of the finest training I have ever attended.  The courses I have attended have greatly increased my confidence as an instructor and a shooter, which has greatly improved my accuracy and overall qualification scores.  I have been able to utilize many of the techniques provided by Matt and Sherrie for my students and fellow officers during our firearms training.  We recently had an officer who, for the last couple of years, consistently had difficulty in obtaining a satisfactory qualification score and would require remedial firearms training and/or additional qualification attempts.  In approximately ninety (90) minutes of utilizing the techniques and methodology provided by Matt and Sherrie with this officer, he then shot the qualification firearms course and achieved a 240 out of a possible 250 the first time.   I have utilized the methodology several times as an instructor and have consistently achieved positive results with every student I have exposed to it.  I suggest every AZPOST firearms instructor attend the Insight's course for the skills to improve our officers' confidence and qualification scores."   Nicholas Piccirello
