Cutting Through The Hype . . .
Is "Instant" Accuracy Possible?
The Simple Truth Below . . . |
|
PETER TARLEY Renown LE Firearms Instructor & Sniper Trainer
"Matt and Sherrie Seibert have developed and refined a teaching methodology that when understood, and properly presented will result in maximum student progress in minimum time with a modest requirement for ammunition. Instructors wishing to take a quantum leap forward should take this course."
Mr. Tarley has been actively involved in the evolution of police and military firearms training since 1972. Peter served for over ten years on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, and has served on a select committee tasked with establishing standards regarding Use of Force training and certification for police, peace officers and instructors in New York State. He has been involved in several law enforcement and military firearms development projects and presented the first graduate level firearms instructors school in the United States, which has become a standard within the industry. |
The Simple Truth About Insight's Training
INSIGHT'S GOAL
Our Goal is to provide Law Enforcement Departments and their Instructors with new ideas, innovative teaching tools, techniques and communication skills that will allow their officers to achieve better accuracy in less time, using less ammunition, saving departments money in the current economic times where budgets have been cut. Most all law enforcement firearms instructors we know are very knowledgeable and expert marksmen. Many instructors believe the shooting process is as simple as aligning the sights and compressing the trigger so the sights stay in alignment when the shot is released. It's that simple, right? If the concepts are that easy, then every shooter who understands those concepts "should" shoot very accurately. In fact every shooter should be able to shoot 1-hole groups with 97% consistency. (Sport psychologists have found that there will always be a 3% variance in human behavior.) Why is it that after 1000 rounds of ammunition and 40 hours of academy training, many recruits still have difficulty qualifying and the qualification scores don't fall within the 97% range? Some instructors believe it's the noise or the felt recoil that creates the stress which leads to inaccuracy. Some believe the inaccuracy is caused by a lack of natural talent, performance anxiety, time limits and the fear of failing their qualifications. If these are the initial causes of inaccuracy and low qualification scores, then why doesn't the officer overcome those roadblocks to achieving precision accuracy after shooting thousands of rounds in repetitive practice? Why isn't the stress and inaccuracy eradicated? Why is it that the average hit ratio for Law Enforcement on the street is only 12% to 25%? (Depending on which study you read.) On the street you may believe that it's the effects of the sympathetic response (flight or flight response) of facing a life threatening assailant that causes the inaccuracy. These could all be very viable explanations. In our opinion, (and it's only our opinion), we need to progress beyond placing blame on our student's inability to cope with the stress, lack of natural talent and other excuses for their lack of proficiency. We need to implement a better training methodology that develops better accuracy for our officers and solves all those problems permanently. Every time an officer misses a shot on the street they become a liability to themselves, their fellow officers, their department and the citizens of their community. They expose themselves and the department to potential law suits. Better accuracy will yield fewer law suits and better officer survival. There is a trend in Law Enforcement to accept and teach "Tactical or Combat Accuracy" as the current objective. This allows for less accuracy, more speed and easier qualification courses. It you ask Dr. Martin Fackler and other experts on "terminal ballistics" they'll share with you that the only way to assure a "1-Shot Stop" is to get the bullet to the spinal column or to mid-brain. This requires a precision shot. Rather than lowering the standards and promoting peripheral hits, wouldn't it be more prudent to provide training that can produce fast accurate precision shots? You may say; "No such thing!" If that is your belief, you're right, and that reality will become a self fulfilled prophesy. Precision shooting has been relegated to competitive shooters. If the best an officer can do with his pistol during qualification is to shoot a shotgun pattern in a sterile controlled environment, his lack of competency may just sign his death warrant on the street when all hell breaks loose. Every time an officer misses a shot or makes a peripheral hit that doesn't stop the threat, he becomes vulnerable to sucking up bullets? Without the hype; at Insight Firearms Training Development we have developed a method of teaching marksmanship that guides the shooter's mind in a way that virtually eliminates the aversion to recoil by keeping the shooter in the "present" so they are not affected by the effects of the firing process or the outcome. On the street, it will keep them in the "present" so they don't project themselves into the future and create a full-blown sympathetic response. Our training provides a new and scientific process. The key is to guide the student's mind, so that their focus will be on the solution and not the problem. By using this process you will be able to communicate to your students in a new way, providing them a more complete understanding of marksmanship. This new understanding will allow them to shoot with precision accuracy, and give them the ability to shoot qualification scores of 97% using 50% less ammunition. (Realistically, not everyone may shoot qualification scores of 97% but 90% is extremely realistic and very achievable for anyone.) We are proud to say that our students have been able to shoot 97% and better on a variety of different law enforcement courses using 50% less ammunition during their initial training. (Please refer to the testimonials below as evidence to support this fact.) This provides three huge opportunities for every department. 1) Increasing the officer's accuracy greatly increases their ability to protect themselves on the street! This saves lives!
2) Increasing accuracy reduces the officer's and the department's liability.
3) Producing precision accuracy in less time with less ammunition expenditure is a huge financial gain for every department, especially with the budget cuts every department has faced! We know you are skeptical of the claims we are making about our methodology and until you experience it for yourself, only then will you realize it's value or potential.
Below is a summary of what we teach in our Advanced Instructor Program. You may find that there are differences in the focus of our program compared to other training methods. HOW THE BRAIN LEARNS DETERMINES HOW TO TEACHThe mind controls the body, the body controls the gun and the gun controls where the bullets impact. We will show you how your students take-in information and represent that information in terms of motor output. This will provide you with a road map to structuring the way you communicate. Then your students will fully understand at the unconscious level what you're teaching and how to apply that information to the shooting process. We will assist you in learning the language of the unconscious. We know this sounds weird, but the "conscious" and "unconscious" minds work very differently and require different language patterns so information is accepted and integrated. One of the main reasons that a shooter has so much trouble bypassing the aversion to recoil is because of the "conscious" mind. If we work from the psychological premise that all learning, all change, and all behavior begins at the unconscious first, we can easily facilitate the integration of the shooting process if we communicate directly to the unconscious. We will share with you very sophisticated language patterns that will bypass the conscious mind and integrate the process directly to the unconscious. This may sound complicated and I'm not going to tell you "it is easy". We know that if you have the smarts to become a cop, catch bad guys and teach marksmanship, you have the intelligence and the ability to learn this new powerful process. EMOTIONAL STATE MANAGEMENT State management is the key to shooting with precision accuracy. If the student's emotions are kept under control, they will be able to maintain precision accuracy in any environment. Let's face it; if you took all the emotions out of the shooting process, the shooter would transform into a biological atomatron and shoot with machine like accuracy. We will provide you with teaching and communication techniques that will keep your student's emotions in check so they can learn the shooting process easily, without any aversion to the firing process. That's right; you really can eliminate the dreaded "Flinch" by modifying the way you communicate to the student! Professional athletes talk about going into the "Zone of Peak Performance". You will learn what it is, how to achieve it, and how to get your students to enter it on demand so they can transfer the precision accuracy they achieve on the range, to the street. Sometimes an officer is caught off guard and experiences a "Startle Response". Sometimes they will experience a startle response on the range when someone else releases a shot. They may experience it on the street when the bad guy pulls a gun and starts unloading on the officer. FACT: You will learn how to teach your students to minimize and/or instantly recover from a "Startle Response" to gain control of their emotions and shoot with absolute confidence and accuracy even under extreme conditions. A NEW AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO TEACH SAFETYMost people don't consciously violate the rules of firearms safety. You will learn the neuro-psychological causes of unintentional, careless, and negligent discharges. More importantly, you will learn a new and powerful technique that cements safety habits into your student's unconscious. We will provide a teaching technique that will program the brain to send up a red flag if the primary rule of firearms safety is violated at the unconscious level and eliminate the possibility of an accidental discharge. MARKSMANSHIP - THE FORMULA FOR SUCCESSWe often teach the "what" but we don't always teach the "how". We will provide you the science behind the neuro-psychology of marksmanship. It is the science of the process that reveals the "How's". EXAMPLE #1: Many instructors tell the student to; "Look at the Front Sight." (We did too for years.) This tells the student what to do, but not how to do it. We have learned that the eye must make a series of saccade and pursuit movements in a very specific syntax to achieve precision accuracy quickly and efficiently. We will provide you with the scientific process and the syntax required. The eyes must be trained just like any other muscle group involved in the shooting process. EXAMPLE #2: Many instructors tell the student to: "Press the Trigger." The question becomes "How" to do that? How to isolate the trigger finger from the rest of the hand so it moves independently and doesn't disturb the alignment of the sights? We will provide you with the scientific process for creating a clear "neuro-pathway" from the brain to the trigger finger so the student fully understands how to compress the trigger and it moves independently from the rest of the hand. We'll also show you how to create a cybernetic loop for the Front Sight to become a stimulus for a conditioned response on the trigger at the unconscious level. This way the shooting process becomes fully automatic and will leave the conscious mind free to strategize and execute tactics. CONSISTENCY & INTEGRATION As you know, getting the student to shoot with consistency has always been challenging. You will learn how to integrate a "Pre-Shot Routine" (a series of Visual and Kinesthetic processes) into the shooting process to gain consistency and accuracy with every shot. We'll show you a simple way to "anchor" the shooting process so precision accuracy is the norm, and a shot outside the group is an anomaly. You will learn how to use a hypnotic process to create muscle memory without having to shoot thousands of rounds of ammunition and spend hundreds of hours of repetition trying to integrate the skill. Once the newly learned information is programmed to the unconscious, the techniques learned will be as automatic as driving a car. THE "NEW" COMBAT MINDIn order to fully understand the skills required to win a gunfight, we will analyze the complexity of the problems faced by the officer in a confrontation and strategies that will give them the winning advantage and the tactical edge. It is important to remember that tactics without accuracy is like pancakes without syrup. The two components must complement and support each other. You will learn a new and critical technique that can be integrated into the "color code" (white, yellow, orange and red) that will give the officer the needed "Key" to keeping their emotional state under control. We will demonstrate why an officer will hesitate or experience inaccuracy on the street. We will provide you with a series of exercises that will provide the officer the tools to eliminate any hesitation and inaccuracy, that would prevent them from achieving peak performance when faced with a life threatening assailant. WORKING WITH A SHOE-STRING BUDGET With today's economy it is more important than ever that you maximize your training dollars. If you could reduce your department's ammunition expenditure up to 50% and reduce the amount of required training time by 70%, while enhancing every trainee's skill level in the department, you would be providing your department a great service. You may ask; "How did I come-up with 50% reduction in ammunition and a 70% reduction in training time?" Please read through the testimonials and review the results of our students. Unlike the hype you see on TV Infomercials that read: "results are not typical", this is NOT true with our results. The results we are able to achieve are true and very typical. Don't take our word. Take a moment to read the testimonials from others who like your self may have been skeptical before they attended this program. Please check out what others achieved who invested to train with us.
Respectfully,
Matt & Sherrie Seibert

What Others Are Saying About Insight's Training
Direct Quotes - No Hype ! - Just Facts |
Nick Piccirello, AZPOST Firearms Instructor
"As an AZPOST Firearms Instructor and an Arizona police officer for almost thirty years, Insight firearms provides some of the finest training I have ever attended. The courses I have attended have greatly increased my confidence as an instructor and a shooter, which has greatly improved my accuracy and overall qualification scores. I have been able to utilize many of the techniques provided by Matt and Sherrie for my students and fellow officers during our firearms training. We recently had an officer who, for the last couple of years, consistently had difficulty in obtaining a satisfactory qualification score and would require remedial firearms training and/or additional qualification attempts. In approximately ninety (90) minutes of utilizing the techniques and methodology provided by Matt and Sherrie with this officer, he then shot the qualification firearms course and achieved a 240 out of a possible 250 the first time. I have utilized the methodology several times as an instructor and have consistently achieved positive results with every student I have exposed to it. I suggest every AZPOST firearms instructor attend the Insight's course for the skills to improve our officers' confidence and qualification scores." Insight's NEW methodology.
"Wow !!! He did it. Matt has created a re-learning system on par with Zen that can do more in one day, than what I've been striving for my whole life. As a former Peace Officer and life long shooter I have attended numerous shooting schools including; Gunsite Training Academy, Defensive Training & Tactics, GSGI (Global Studies Group Inc.), and Louis Awerbuck's Yavapai Firearms Academy. I thought I was good, but never as consistent as I wanted to be. But now I've accomplished what I thought was only possible by professional exhibition shooters. 1 hole groups each and every time no matter what. This system is for everyone, young or old, shooter or non-shooter. Everyone and I mean everyone has the ability to consistently fire 1 hole groups with this system. Thanks to Matt I was able to achieve what I thought was only possible with years of practice and thousands of rounds of ammo. Now it is available to anybody in just 1 day." Wayne Padilla |
Janice Dorn

"I am trained as a M.D. (Psychiatrist) and Ph.D. (Brain Scientist). Matt and Sherrie have invested years of experience into understanding and reviewing the mind / body interaction. The guided visualization was among the best of this type of relaxation method I have ever experienced. I never shot a gun before this class. At the end of the class I shot the side of a business card! The lessons taught in their class were perfect in terms of the insight into the brain - body connection. I recommend their class to anyone who wants to learn from the best instructors !" Janice Dorn, M.D., Ph.D. |

John Bruch, Former FBI Special Agent (John was Responsible for the FBI National Academy Program in AZ) "I have been able to observe some excellent instructors through the country and I can say that I would rank you among the best! . . . I sincerely wish this information could be presented to all law enforcement officers. I am proud of the firearms training afforded to me in the Bureau over the years and I believe we have many talented instructors and marksman; however I can say that this is the first time I have ever heard any of the information relative to the neurological aspects of shooting. Thank you again for a great training experience which I would recommend to any of my associates in law enforcement."
Captain David Starin, SWAT Commander, YCSO, AZ "I have 14 years of firearms instructing experience and this is the first class I learned a methodology that was new and innovative in many years."
Deputy Ed Philpott, Maricopa County Sheriff, AZ "Just to update you, I graduated from the Deputy Academy last week and thanks to your teaching in the past took home the firearms award. I finished with a 99.3% on my quals. Everything you taught me I put to good use while on the range."
Officer Darrell Moerch, St. Johns Police Department, AZ "I always felt I was missing something when I was working with students and trying to diagnose their shooting difficulties . . . Matt and Sherrie are masters of instruction. They provided the missing link in my ability to help improve not only my students but my own shooting ability."
Joe Tessitore, US Border Patrol "Thank you for the instruction you gave me . . . it helped me excel in my firearms course at the Border Patrol Academy. . . I would like to let you know I was the top shooter in my class with much thanks to you. I scored 357/360." Deputy Doug Owens, YCSO, AZ "It was Awesome ! Time and money well spent. . . A fantastic course that can benifit any police recruit, as well as an advanced law enforcement firearms instructor. Mr. Seibert is an outstanding instructor and I hope more of our comrades take advantage of his training opportunity.
Thanks Matt and Sherrie !!! "
F.W. Filkins, Prescott, AZ "I have been a Firearms Instructor for over 50 years. Retired from the LUMPD after 18 years, where I trained over 3,000 recruits in the use of pistol, rifle and shotgun. Your instruction techniques and training aid use was outstanding. Better than the training I ever did as a teacher. Both of you are to be commended. It was a class act."
Rock Rakosi, Master Sergeant, Arizona Army National Guard
"I have been in the Army for over 20 years. I have taught many soldiers how to shoot, but I learned more in three hours than I learned in 20 years of being in the Army. This is some of the best money I have ever spent ! "
Tom Halstead, Prescott Valley, AZ "Matt Seibert's course is outstanding. It combines and balances mental and physical training in a unique and extraordinary way. I've shot the worlds best courses including the Israeli Anti-Terrorism facilities, and Matt's approach surpasses them all. Few instructors get to the unconscious skill level. Matt does it in fine fashion from the very first hour." Kenneth R. O. US Air Force Para Rescue, Davis-Monthan, AZ"The only training I'd had was what we received at PJ school. We shot about 800 rounds a piece there, and in this training I learned more in the first day! This training will also transfer to a lot of other things we do. This is great mind conditioning!"
Donna Schmidt, Prescott, AZ "Unbelievable! The confidence, the accuracy - what a great achievement! - Smart training - So efficient - Great trainers! So much fun - So exciting - Sharp shooting !" Jim Clark, Dewey, AZ"I've had over 50 years of shooting, from competition to military to law enforcement, and many shooting instructions (including FBI). This was by far the best instruction I've ever had!"
