Greetings!
The newly elected Board of Directors for the 2012-2014 term recently held its first meeting. We are lucky to have a number of veteran Board members continuing on, including Holly Haines as our Immediate Past President, Karyl Martin as Vice President, Sheila Burnham as Treasurer, Sabrina Beavens as Secretary, Christina Ferrari as Public Relations Officer, Erin Desmarais Wolf as Networking Director, Kara Simard as Membership Secretary, Clara Dietel as Vice Membership Secretary, Kate Mahan as Programming Director, Lynne Sabean as Belknap County Representative, Sandra Cabrera as Coos Country Representative, Viktoriya Kovalenko as Grafton County Representative, and Cathy McKay as Rockingham County Representative. Please join me in thanking them for their continuing service to the NHWBA.
I am also excited to welcome our new Member-at-Large, Heather Flanner, as well as our new Out of State Liaison, Hannah Zaitlin. We are pleased to welcome four new County Representatives to our Board of Directors: Heidi Ames is our new Hillsborough-North County Representative; Talesha Caynon is our new Hillsborough-South County Representative; Marcia Thunberg is our new Merrimack County Representative; and Jeanine Kilgallen is our new Strafford County Representative. Please welcome them to our Board leadership as well. As always, if you are interested in hosting a program or networking event in any county in New Hampshire, please contact the appropriate representative, and we will work with you to schedule the event.
Fall is always filled with exciting and fun NHWBA events. This year, we are pleased to be co-hosting an informal reception with the NH Campaign for Legal Services and the Marilla M. Ricker Award Recipients on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Common Man in Concord. Please join us for an informative evening of learning about the hard work performed by the Campaign for Legal Services. We hope to see you there!
We will return to the Concord Country Club on Thursday, September 27, 2012 to hold our 15th Annual Fall Reception. We are very excited to honor Connie L. Rakowsky, Executive Director of the Legal Advice and Referral Center and the recipient of the 2012 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award. The Ricker Award honors an outstanding woman lawyer in New Hampshire who has achieved professional excellence or paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession, or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women. Join us for a night of recognition of Attorney Rakowsky's achievements, as well as a night of networking with our members. We will also present the 2012 Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship to Jessica Allsop, a deserving second year law student at UNH School of Law.
In closing, I would like to thank each one of you for allowing me the opportunity to serve as the President of the NHWBA. If at any time you have any questions or concerns about your membership, or any ideas about how we can make the NHWBA even better, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Holly J. Kilibarda, President
New Hampshire Women's Bar Association

Spotlight on our Member, Holly B. Haines The NHWBA wishes to thank Holly Haines for her years of leadership on its Board and congratulate her on completing her term as President. Holly's leadership of the NHWBA as President for the last two years has been invaluable. She has worked to promote the NHWBA and its mission throughout the state. As current NHWBA Vice President, Karyl Roberts Martin, noted "Holly has worked tirelessly during her term as President and as a member of the NHWBA Board to advance gender equality and professionalism in this State. She has also established strong relationships between NHWBA and several charitable organizations, in part through her own volunteer efforts. We are fortunate to have her continued involvement and leadership within the Association."
Holly is an attorney with Abramson, Brown & Dugan, and focuses her practice on medical malpractice and personal injury. Outside of her practice, Holly is involved in many professional organizations including the American Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Division, Litigation and Health Law Committees and is currently serving on the ABA Health Law Section's Breast Cancer Advisory taskforce. She is also an active member of the New Hampshire Association for Justice, the Southern New Hampshire Women's Business Network, the Manchester Young Professionals Network and the Manchester Bar Association. She has served on the Editorial Boards for the New Hampshire Bar Journal and the New Hampshire Bar News since 2004. Holly is well respected by attorneys and judges across the state. Last year, Holly received the Robert E. Kirby Award, which is awarded annually to an attorney who is 35 years or younger and exhibits civility, courtesy, perspective and excellent advocacy. The NHWBA is honored to have had Holly at the helm of the organization for the past two years. As current President, Holly Kilibarda aptly stated, "I have worked with Holly on the NHWBA Board for several years now. She is truly one of the hardest working people I know. I am humbled to pick up the torch from her and to do my best to continue the trend of impressive growth and success which the NHWBA enjoyed under her leadership." Thank you, Holly! |

Congratulations to Circuit Court Judges Recently Confirmed The NHWBA extends its congratulations to the recently confirmed Circuit Court judges. Several of the judges have connections to the NHWBA. Judge Julie Introcaso was one of the founders of the NHWBA and without her efforts, a statewide Women's Bar Association would not exist. Judge Jennifer Lemire served on the Board of Directors of NHWBA for several years, volunteering her time to support our mission of supporting and promoting the advancement of women in the profession. Judge Susan Carbon was one of the first recipients of the Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award. Finally, Judge Paul Moore is a member of the NHWBA and we recently partnered with Judge Moore and MooreMart during our annual Food Drive. The NHWBA will also be participating in MooreMart's November packing event to help prepare holiday care packages for our troops overseas. More details about this event can be found below. Congratulations to all six judges who were confirmed last week. |

The pictures to the right are of troops at Camp Eggers, Afghanistan enjoying some of the care packages sent by MooreMart. MooreMart also supports humanitarian projects in Iraq and Afghanistan through shipments of relief supplies to schools, clinics, orphanages and soccer teams. One of the mandates of these humanitarian projects is that the groups allow and encourage participation of women and support the education and advancement of women in those historically discriminatory nations.
