News and Events:
April 2012

Greetings!

Spring is now in full swing and we have a lot of upcoming events for our members that are detailed in this newsletter, including many opportunities for volunteer service and fundraising for charitable organizations.  I want to encourage all of our members to participate in the annual food drive to help feed New Hampshire children this summer when they cannot rely on their schools for meals.  All that is required is to place a collection box at your office and to let your colleagues know about the drive.  The NHWBA will do the rest and pick up all donations from you.  We can provide you with flyers and posters for the collection boxes, as well as additional information about the requested food items.  Please just contact us to get involved.  Finally, if you have ever considered getting more involved with NHWBA we are holding elections next month for our 2012-2014 term. Please contact our executive director, Gretchen Pyles, to express interest and get on the ballot.  The best way to get more from your membership is to get more involved by joining the board of directors! Please also remember to vote next month when the ballots are electronically sent.

Best regards,

Holly B. Haines, President

New Hampshire Women's Bar Association

NHWBA Seeking Nominations for Ballot for

2012-2014 NHWBA Board of Directors

Elections for positions on the NHWBA Board of Directors will take place next month.  If you or someone you know is interested in being on the ballot for any position, please contact our Executive Director, Gretchen Pyles at Gretchen@nhwba.org by no later than May 4, 2012.  A complete listing of our current board positions can be found on our website by clicking here.  We are eager to have representatives on our board for each county and especially need representatives in the following counties: Carroll, Cheshire, Merrimack, Strafford and Sullivan.  Please consider joining our board to help direct the future of the NHWBA.

Food Drive To Help Feed Hungry Children Starts!

For the fourth consecutive year, the NHWBA is collecting food
and monetary donations to help feed hungry children here in New Hampshire.  From April 16th to May 11th, the NHWBA will be collecting canned fruit, pasta items (boxed, canned or bagged) and monetary donations for the New Hampshire Food Bank.  Checks should be made payable to "NH Food Bank" and sent to NHWBA at P. O. Box 915, Manchester, NH  03105.

Food donations made within individual firms and offices will be collected by NHWBA representatives from May 11th to May 16th.  If you would like to collect items at your office or would like to donate items and need to know where to bring them, please contact Katherine Brown or Cathy Shanelaris.

All food items and monetary donations collected during the drive will benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank to help with the increased need for food during the summer months.  Specifically, the New Hampshire Food Bank and local food pantries have the added strain of families needing more food because they cannot rely on the schools for hot lunches for their children.

Donations of all sizes are welcome and encouraged.  Thank you to all who donate to the NHWBA's Food Drive!

Deadline for Nominations for the

2012 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award

is May 15, 2012

The NHWBA is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award.  The Ricker Award honors outstanding women lawyers in New Hampshire who have achieved professional excellence, and who have paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women.  The award is named in honor of Marilla M. Upcoming Events

Volunteer with MooreMart to Help Pack Care Packages for our Troops in the Middle East and for Humanitarian Projects in Iraq and Afghanistan

Judge Paul Moore's non-profit, "MooreMart" has shipped over five tons of relief supplies to schools, clinics, orphanages and soccer teams in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last six years.  They ship the supplies to a number of different groups and their only requirement is that the organizers or managers must allow women to participate in the event or be the recipients of the services provided.  Judge Moore explained that prior to MooreMart's involvement, the local communities did not make the relief supplies or services available to women because clothing, medical care, classroom seats and spots on soccer teams were reserved for men.

The next packing event will be held at the Nashua National Guard Armory on the following dates:

May 17th, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
May 18th, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
May 19th, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

If you would like to volunteer, contact Judge Moore by April 25, 2012 at Paul@MooreMart.org.
