Greetings!
As a fitting end to summer and beginning of the NHWBA fiscal year with a strategic plan for move our organization forward, the New Hampshire Bar Journal has published the second decennial Gender Equality Issue as a 20 Year Follow Up on Gender Equality issues.
The Summer 2010 Bar Journal includes the most recent Gender Equality Survey results, as well as many articles written by our members on issues facing women in the profession today such as the tyranny of the billable hour; the glass ceiling and pay disparities; opportunities for women in the legal profession; dealing with law firm politics; the status of women in the legal profession today; and, the gender diversity demographics of the New Hampshire judiciary. I ask and encourage you to read all of these articles in the Summer 2010 Bar Journal and then get involved in the efforts of our organization to address the issues raised as we continue to promote and advance the interests of women in the legal profession.
The Summer 2010 Bar Journal can be accessed here.
The gender issues addressed in the Bar Journal and in the Gender Equality Survey show the need for our organization to grow and move these issues to the forefront of the dialogue of issues facing the legal profession. For our organization to grow and move forward though, we need your help. I ask that you join a committee and get involved.
The NHWBA is currently seeking members for the following committees:
1. NHWBA Membership Committee- Recruitment of New Members
Sub-Committee
2. NHWBA Membership Committee- Member Benefits and Marketing
Sub-Committee
3. NHWBA Networking Committee
4. NHWBA Programming Committee
5. NHWBA Infrastructure Committee
Please contact me or any of the NHWBA Board Members if you are interested in joining any of these committees. Your involvement will only make our organization better, stronger, and more able to address the issues raised by the Gender Equality Survey.
I look forward to having you involved in our organization and seeing you at an event this year!
Best regards, Holly B. Haines |

Apply Now for 2011 NHBA Leadership Academy!
The NHBA has established a Leadership Academy, which is designed to identify, educate and equip lawyers to be emerging leaders in the legal profession and their communities. The program will accept approximately 15 attorney members of the NHBA who have been in practice for at least three years and not more than ten years. In an effort to achieve diversity among the participants, qualified individuals will be sought from different backgrounds, large and small law firms, the private and public sectors, different practice areas, and different geographical parts of the state.
The Academy involves an overnight retreat and one meeting a month for classes which involve leadership skills and training, communication and public speaking, volunteerism, networking locally and statewide, and how to effectively serve on nonprofit boards. The goal of this Academy is to get more leaders in the pipeline to lead the NHBA and other organizations in legal community, like the NHWBA. We encourage our members to apply!
If you're ready to step up and make a difference, opportunity awaits! For more information, please visit the New Hampshire Bar Association Website or contact Jennifer Parent. Click here to learn more about the academy and for application information.
Applications are due no later than September 15, 2010, at 5:00 p.m.
