Happy New Year!
I hope you have had the opportunity to check out our new website. Don't forget to renew your membership while you are on the site and to check back periodically for new events!
We have a number of new and exciting initiatives in the works for the upcoming year in the areas of mentoring and networking. I hope to share the details with you in next month's newsletter. We are also in the process of finalizing plans for our public service initiative and will reveal those details shortly, too.

Jennifer Lemire Nominated for Marital Master
NHWBA member and past NHWBA Vice President, Jennifer A. Lemire has been nominated for the position of Marital Master.
Jennifer currently practices at Wiggin & Nourie's Portsmouth office and is a Past President of the Rockingham County Bar Association and Past Chairman of the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce.
A public hearing before the Executive Council is scheduled for January 13th at 2 p.m.

Membership Renewal Time!
The membership drive is full swing! This year, all member registration renewals is through our new web site. This online registration process includes a new feature to allow for members to pay their membership dues by credit card. However, members will also be able to continue to send in checks if that is their preference.
Three Easy Steps to Renew: 1. Visit www.nhwba.org 2. Click on "Join" 3. Fill out Membership FormOnce your registration is processed, you will receive an email with your username and temporary password - use those to log into the "members only" section of the website and select your own password.

Gender Equality Committee Breakfast

Dennis Delay, a NH-based economist, will discuss the key findings of the second 10-year follow up to the NHBA Women in the Profession survey at the Gender Equality Breakfast on Friday, Feb. 12 at the 2010 NHBA Midyear Meeting.
The breakfast also will feature the presentation of the 7th NHBA Gender Equality Committee's Philip S. Hollman Award, recognizing dedication to promoting respect and fair treatment for all members of the justice system.

ABA Women at a Glance Report
The American Bar Association's Commission on the Status of Women released its annual summary of statistics on women attorneys. The full report can be found at the Commission's web site at www.abanet.org/women/currentglancestatistics2009.pdf.
Some national statistics of note:
- Women make up 31% of practicing attorneys
- 19.2% of law firm partners are women
- Women comprise 47.4% of first year law students
- 24.7% of district judges are women
- Full-time working women attorneys make 80.5% of the salary that their male counterparts make
