News & Events
Greetings!

I want to share some exciting news from last month!

First, the NHWBA Board unanimously approved the Public Policy Statement on Alternative Sentencing at our last meeting. A copy of the final draft of the statement will be added to our association website shortly. I would like to thank the members of our Public Policy Committee for their hard work and enthusiasm on this endeavor!

Second, I am pleased to share that our annual work/stress relief clinic was sold out this year.  In fact, we even increased our room block at the Common Man Inn this year to try to accomodate everyone who expressed interest in attending. Thank you to Holly Kilibarda for coordinating this event for us!  For those whom we had to turn away, please try to join us again next year. And for the new faces that joined in the fun this year, we hope to see you again at this and other events.

Finally, I have to say that I'm happy to be seeing so many members attending the variety of events that we are offering.  Registration for our golf clinic began this week and there are only 5 spots left!  The financial seminars are also bringing out some new faces (as well as some familiar faces that we haven't seen in a while). We're also going to start publishing committee meeting notices in our newsletters.  Even if you are not on a committee, you are more than welcome to attend any of those meetings to find out more about what we're planning and perhaps to even suggest a few ideas of your own.

Many thanks for your continued support of and involvement in our association!

Sincerely,

Kristin Mendoza
President

CALLING ALL EVENT PLANNERS
(masquerading as lawyers)!

Would you like to have a hand in choosing and planning NHWBA networking events?

Then please join us at the Common Man restaurant in Concord on April 16th at 5:30 p.m. for drinks and to assist the Networking Committee as we plan fun and exciting opportunities in 2009 for you to network and socialize with fellow NHWBA members!  Your input and involvement are very important to us, so please come on out and be a part of making the NHWBA work for you.

Please email the Networking Committee Chair, Elizabeth McCormack by April 15th if you plan to attend so that she can reserve enough seats for everyone.  If you forget to RSVP, that's ok - please come anyway!  We will always make room for more volunteers!  Hope to see you next week!

Donate to Food Drive Benefitting Children

The  NHWBA is participating in a national women's bar pilot project led by the National Conference of Women's Bar Associations (NCWBA) and aimed at feeding hungry children.

All food items and monetary donations collected in New Hampshire during the pilot project will benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank to help with the increased need for food during the summer months.  Specifically, the New Hampshire Food Bank and local food pantries have the added strain of families needing more food because they cannot rely upon the school for a hot lunch for their children.

From April 20th until May 15th, the NHWBA will be collecting pasta items (boxed, bagged or canned) and monetary donations for the New Hampshire Food Bank at designated drop-off locations in each county.  When making a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to "NH Food Bank."  Please send checks to the NHWBA at P.O. Box 915, Manchester, NH 03105, or deliver in-hand at a drop-off center so that the NHWBA can accurately report the results of the pilot project.

Food and/or checks can be delivered to the following drop-off centers:

·         Carroll County - Rebecca Oleson, Cooper, Cargill, Chant , 2935 White Mountain Highway, North Conway;603-356-5439

·         Coos County - Rebecca Oleson, Cooper, Cargill, Chant, 110 Pleasant Street Berlin; 603-752-5200

·         Hillsborough - North - Kristin Mendoza, Devine, Millimet & Branch, P.A., 111 Amherst Street, Manchester; 603-669-1000

·         Hillsborough - South - Cathy Shanelaris, Shanelaris & Schirch, PLLC, 35 East Pearl Street, Nashua; 603-594-8300

·         Merrimack - Marcie Vaughan, Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., 107 Storrs Street Concord; 603-225-7262

·         Merrimack - Joceline Champagne, New Hampshire Bar Center, 2 Pillsbury Street, Concord; 603-224-6942

·         Rockingham - Katherine Brown/Kim Memmesheimer, Hoefle, Phoenix, Gormley & Roberts, P.A., 402 State Street, Portsmouth, NH; 603-436-0666

·         Strafford - Sarah Cox, Burns, Bryant, Cox, Rockefeller & Durkin, P.A., 255 Washington Street, Dover, NH 03821; 603-742-2332

The NHWBA has set a minimum goal for our membership to collect 1500 pasta items and $3,000 in check donations, but we're confident that we will collect much more!  While donations of all sizes are welcomed and encouraged, we know that we will be able to achieve, and likely exceed, this goal if every member contributes 5 pasta items along with a $10.00 check donation.

Any questions regarding the project can be directed to Kim Memmesheimer at
kmemmensheimer@hpglaw.com, Cathy Shanelaris at cathy@sandslawfirm.com, or Katherine Brown at kbrown@hpglaw.com.
