Greetings!

What an amazing time we live in!  While watching the Presidential-Elect speech, Barack Obama mentioned a woman who voted for the first time at 106 years old.  He then highlighted some of the events this woman has experienced in her lifetime.  I was genuinely excited when I considered what we can do, achieve and accomplish as a people, nation and world community in my (our) lifetime and that of my (our) children.  It is exciting and motivating.

Here's to our vision, our compassion and our unity!  And to you, I wish for you the best day, hour and moment you've ever experienced!
The Feng Shui of Trees & Plants

KellyJonesFengShuiTreesandPlants
All things carry Chi, the Chinese term for energy.  The amount of chi varies dramatically based on whether it is an animate or inanimate object.  The type of chi can be categorized into the Five Elements referred to in Feng Shui ~ Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal.

If we look at trees and plants we can see how a full cycle of the Five Elements interplay.  As trees and plants are of the wood element, they require water and sunlight (fire) to grow and the soil or earth to get nutrients from.  And in our humanness, we use metal to cut and prune them.

In Feng Shui we can look at many aspects of an object ~ its vitality, nature, purpose, element, size, shape, color, quantity and location.  When it comes to trees there are some good guidelines to consider around the home:  1.)  Do not plant a tree directly in front of the main door - it will block chi, 2.)  The shade provided by trees can be very helpful on one's electric bill, however be careful not to have too many trees close to the house as this can affect both the mood and health of occupants, 3.)  Alive is best!  Whether inside or outside the home, we benefit most from trees that are alive and healthy.

Plants are much easier to bring into the home or workplace.  Again, there are some considerations to be aware of when choosing and placing your plants.  1.) Alive is best!  Dead or dried flowers (also wood element) are not my favorite, even as a keepsake for a special occasion.  I personally recommend finding another special article to cherish.  2.) Be sure the type of plant fits the location based on sunlight requirements.  3.) Plants are an excellent way to bring nature indoors.  But, if you don't have a green thumb, please consider a beautiful silk plant.  I know, I know, they hold a much lesser chi makeup but they mimic the real thing quite well.  I think that's a win-win situation.  Be sure to dust regularly.  4.) And finally, consider the shape and size of the plant in relation to the placement.  For smaller spaces, a smaller full leaved plant is good.  For larger spaces, a larger plant works well but so does a pointier leaf or extremity.  For example, many hear it is not good Feng Shui to have cactus plants but personally, I consider them okay as long as they have plenty of space around them!  In general, however, the more full and round the leaves the better.
Born a Horse

KellyJonesStallionHorseFor those born in the Year of the Horse (2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942, 1930, 1918) you may already know the current Year of the Rat is in conflict with your Horse energy.  So, briefly I wanted to alert all Horses to be especially careful of travels in the upcoming month of December.  Specifically the dates are December 7, 2008 thru January 4, 2009.  This means avoid all distractions while driving.  When flying bring a carry on piece of luggage in case your main bag loses its way and be sure to pack your special jewelry in the one you're carrying.  Also, have an exit strategy in case of unavoidable altercations so you can walk away and find a little freedom and fresh air.  And finally, for those who are planning surgery in December, do not pick the Day of the Rat.  (If you need an auspicious date selected, check out the various ways date selection can benefit you at www.KJFengShui.com.)
