How brave are you?
In this month's Communique', I focus on all things brave.
Brave comes in many forms:
>AIU Online graduates from all over the world--one traveling for 2 days from Africa--whom I met in Chicago where I was the commencement speaker
>The panel of women university presidents at an event I recently attended
>My 19-year old daughter who had her wisdom teeth pulled earlier this week. In this edition , you'll also find details on the May 1st Speaker/Author Meet and Greet booth at the Carlsbad Village Street Faire. If you're in the San Diego area, I'd love to catch up with you there! Wherever you are...Sacramento or Singapore, Portland or Poland, let's talk soon about partnering on a program to help your group stay positive and work together better. I'm also available for commencement speeches! All the best,
Professional Speaker & Author of the book

BRAVING TURBULENT TIMES
Strategies for leaders shared in a keynote by California State University, Northridge President Jolene Kester
ESTABLISH CLEAR PRIORITIES
Ask: how are things better as a consequence of your leadership?
Shift from being an effective "doer" to setting goals for others
Effectively pursue and stay focused on a limited # of high priority, strategic goals...especially in turbulent times
SET THE TONE Leaders serve as a compass to steer thru turbulent times Remember: Leaders are always in the sight and hearing of others..."public face" Set a tone of civility, calm and productivity rather than airing your own frustration
SET NORMS/EXPECTATIONS
Set expectation of dialogue and respect...if you listen you'll get good advice Become an agent of change...change is almost always incremental. Be patient w/ change! Be responsible for setting norm of nourishing yourself...exercise, sleep, time for reflection
COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE
Clear message...make formal messages a "group effort"; get input before sending out Transparency: Accurate, integrity, don't make stuff up; find out the answer! Repeat message. Be willing to be redundant. Multiple modes...video, website, social media
