Greetings!

Sarita's Photo
As I write this, I am in New Haven, Connecticut where I conducted a presentation this past Tuesday, 1/11/11.

I had the pleasure of speaking on one of my longtime, signature topics "How to Turn Negativity into Possibility...at Work and Beyond."

Ironically, everything that happened before and after the presentation seemed to be a test of whether I walk my negativity-to-possibility talk.   It may have also been a test of my 17 years as a professional speaker/"road warrior."

My journey from San Diego to Connecticut became a 20-hr detour after my flight connecting in snowy Atlanta was canceled.   Then, shortly after my Tuesday evening presentation, the Northeast was blanketed with a snowstorm...more flight cancelations.

In spite of my travel adventures, I'm especially excited to share with you in this month's Communique':

  • New Year's resolutions of Communique' Readers (THANKS to the almost 70 people who contributed!)

  • Sarita's Five Favorite Tips for Keeping Your New Year's Resolutions
  • A Thought for the New Year:  "The Optimists Creed"

Have a positive and productive Twenty Eleven!

all the challenges, delights, and frustrations of Windows 7 and the new Office Suite."

-John Shirley, Richardson TX

"My New Year's Resolution is to not have any resolutions that I can't keep. I decided this year that I just need to work on one thing at a time that I want to improve instead of several all at once - so first one is reading my Bible every day."  -Murielle Barnes,
Amarillo, TX

"Ask myself how I'm doing in key areas such as fitness, finances and building my business." -Cathy Bolger, San Diego CA

"To be a more positive outgoing person spiritually and socially."

Sarita's Five Favorite Tips for Keeping New Years Resolutions

Jan 2011 Calendar

1. Make your goal specific...get a plan!

For example, my New Year's resolution is "Eat less sugar."  My specific plan is "Treat myself to 3 sweets a week."

(I won't mention how many sweets I'm currently eating.)

  2. Tell others

Have a few supportive friends serve as your "accountability partners." They can keep you honest and cheer you on!

3. State goal in positive terms

For example, "I will give myself deadlines for my projects" rather than "I will stop procrastinating."

 4. Give yourself a
"do over."

If you fall off the proverbial wagon, don't give up.  Just start over the next day.

5. Pick your priorities

You may have a long list of things you'd like to accomplish in 2011, however your chances of reaching your goals are higher if you choose one or two on which to focus.

A Thought for the New Year

Optimist Creed

I Promise...

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet.

To make all my friends feel that there is something special in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of myself that I have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
