Barbeques, parades and fireworks...all are part of this weekend's 4th of July celebration with family and friends!
However, with some gatherings of family and friends, there may be the occasional need to share a concern or defuse the "fireworks" of a difficult interaction.
The dilemma: To confront or not to confront?
These three questions will help you decide.
ASK YOURSELF:
1) Is the behavior having a negative effect...on you, the family, the team?
2) Is the situation beginning to affect your ATTITUDE?
(ie- Your resentment is increasing)
3) What is the CONSEQUENCE of NOT confronting? (Sometimes positive people are driven away when negative situations aren't handled.)
If you do decide to share concerns, remember to do so in PRIVATE and use POSITIVE "I" phrases such as "I would appreciate..." and "I would prefer that..." rather than blaming phrases like "You need to..." or "You better..."

I hope your 4th of July weekend is a positive one...with more fun and less "family fireworks!"
