Greetings!

What's on your "someday" list?

I recently  had some lively discussion about this question with participants in my "How to Get More Done with Less Stress" workshop.

We talked about the fact that the things that matter most to us--ironically--don't have a deadline.  As a result, we put these things off while saying "someday I will..."

Since October is National Work & Family Month, I thought I'd share some of my favorite strategies for accomplishing the things that matter most:
  • Set bite-size goals with realistic deadlines
  • Enlist others to hold you accountable
  • Learn to say NO to things that don't support your goals  (See Featured Phrase below)
  • Don't wait for the "perfect time" to start...there's no such thing (See "Quit Waiting" blurb below)
  • Do something--anything--within the next 72 hours

I wish you all the best in getting done the things that matter to you most. Whether your goal is going back to school,  writing a book, building your dream house or taking a cruise, go for it...NOW!

PS -  There's still time to schedule a work-family month program for your staff  in late October...and I'd be happy to partner with you.

Quit Waiting

When it comes to accomplishing the things on the "someday list," I love the wisdom of Jack Canfield in his book The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.  He writes:

It's time to quit waiting for:

Perfection
Inspiration
Permission
Reassurance
Someone to change
The right person to come along
The kids to leave home
A more favorable horoscope
The new administration to take over
An absence of risk
Someone to discover you
A clear set of instructions
More self-confidence
The pain to go away

In other words, there's no perfect time to pursue your dreams.  Take action anyway!

What Do You Say?
Featured Phrase:  "I Choose"

This is a great phrase to use when you want to decline an offer gracefully.  It works well in conjunction with an acknowledgement.  For example:

"I appreciate your thinking of me, however, I'm going to choose to pass."

"Thanks so much, however I've chosen not to participate again this year."

"I'm choosing to opt out of the committee."
