What's wrecking your resolutions? - January 2009

Happy New Year!

When I arrived at my favorite aerobics class last week and there was almost no space available, I realized...it's January!

This is the time of year when many of us are jolted from the eat-drink-be merry mode of the Holidays to the stark reality of resolutions...and exercise is near the top of the list (it's #3 behind "save money" and "lose weight," according to the third annual FranklinCovey New Year's Resolutions Survey)

That same survey revealed that  35% of respondents break their resolutions by the end of January.

So what's wrecking your resolutions?

Sarita's Five Favorite Strategies for Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles to reaching goals, New Years resolutions included.  Either we put off starting or we get going with enthusiasm and lose track along the way.

Here are 5 strategies that I share in my "How to Get More Done with Less Stress" presentation which may help.  A more detailed discussion of each strategy can be found on Resources Page at www.SaritaMaybin.com

1. Try "Swisscheese"
2. Involve someone else
3. Create an "Approved List"
4. Multitask
5. Just do it!

WHAT DO YOU SAY? :
Monthly Featured Phrase

"How can we resolve this?

This is a great phrase to use with friends, family and business colleagues who may not fully support or embrace your goal...another thing that may be wrecking your resolutions!

Here's some examples of how to use this phrase when your New Year's Resolution turns into conflict resolution:

"I''d like to start fixing healthier meals but also want to make something you kids could enjoy. How can we resolve this?

"I'd like to make time to take a course but need to cover the office phones.  How can we resolve this?"
