House Passes Health Care Reform. Now What?
Employee Benefit News issued the attached
article/blog regarding the recently passed Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act (PPACA). In addition to
provided an overall summary of what it is, who it affects, and when changes are
effective, there is also a link to a site that provides a sample template memo
for employers to send to employees.
(Note: The Senate has begun consideration of the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 (HR 4872) which includes
several changes to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This
reconciliation bill has already been passed in the House.)

Anthem: New
System, New Process Will Simplify ERISA Form 5500 Reporting
To more effectively implement the new Department
of Labor ERISA Form 5500 requirements for reporting non-monetary and indirect
compensation on Schedules A and C, we are centralizing and standardizing the
production of reports.

Capital BlueCross: Online EOBs to Replace Most Paper Mailings
Beginning in
May, 2010, Capital BlueCross will replace most paper Explanation of Benefits
(EOBs) mailings for group subscribers with online electronic versions. This
change is part of our mission to be more environmentally responsible and reduce
administrative expenses. Groups and members are being notified via letters this
week.

BlueCross: Phone Number Changes
Capital
BlueCross direct dial phone numbers for Account Administration will no longer
be in service beginning March 22, 2010. Our small and large group customers
will need to begin using the toll-free number, 1-800-541-3742, when contacting
Account Administration and Group Services. Direct dial numbers include those
with an area code of 717.

Independence Blue Cross: Changes to Disease Management Program
IBC's disease management program for complex
chronic conditions has been provided in collaboration with an external vendor,
Accordant Health Services, since 2005. We have enhanced our internal care
management capabilities and now have the expertise to provide these services
using our own staff.
