Independence Blue Cross:  Keystone 65 Preferred HMO and Keystone 65 Advantage HMO Coverage will Remain in 2010

We recently learned that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sent letters in error to some of our Keystone 65 Preferred HMO and Keystone 65 Advantage HMO members. The letters advised members that we will no longer be offering these plans in 2010 and that their coverage will terminate as of December 31, 2009. This is not true. We will continue to offer Keystone 65 Preferred HMO and Keystone 65 Advantage HMO coverage to individuals in 2010.

Independence Blue Cross:  Massachusetts Health Care Reform Law

Starting July 1, 2007, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required its residents who are 18 or older to have health insurance. Beginning on January 1, 2009, the law also required them to maintain a minimum level of health coverage, referred to as minimum creditable coverage (MCC). A Massachusetts resident who does not satisfy the MCC requirements will be subject to personal income tax penalties. Regardless of whether your customers' health plan coverage is fully insured or self-funded, Massachusetts residents over 18 must maintain coverage that meets MCC requirements.
