Aetna: Federal Law Requires Aetna
to Collect Social Security Numbers
Aetna recently sent letters to Plan Sponsors with the subject line
- "Federal Law Requires Us to Collect Social Security Numbers and Other
Information from Plan Sponsors". These
letters (attached) were designed to outline Aetna's
requirements for compliance with Section 111 (Medicare Secondary Payer) of the
Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act which goes into effect January 1,
2010. The letter was meant to notify
Plan Sponsors that Aetna will need to collect
this data in the future. At this time Aetna has not issued guidelines as to how they will
collect the information.

AmeriHealth NJ: Position on
Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings
AmeriHealth does not have plans to
change our Wellness Guidelines or coverage for breast and cervical cancer
screenings as a result of new recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services
Task Force (USPSTF) and the American
College of Obstetrics and
Gynecologists (ACOG).

Anthem: COBRA
Subsidy Clarification
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provision
that provided eligible COBRA and state continuation participants with nine
months of subsidized premiums will end December 31, 2009. Therefore, an
individual who becomes eligible for COBRA or state continuation coverage after
December 31, 2009, will not be eligible for the 65 percent subsidy.

Horizon BCBS of NJ:
Medicare Part D Plan Rating Information Now Available
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) now
requires health insurance plans to provide plan rating information about their
Medicare Part D plans to any Medicare beneficiary upon request.

Independence Blue Cross:

Acquires Health Net's Northeast Licenses and Rights
to Renew Membership
We are excited to tell you that UnitedHealthcare
completed its acquisition of Health Net of the Northeast's licensed
subsidiaries and obtained rights to renew Health Net's membership in Connecticut, New York
and New Jersey.
Current Health Net customers who choose to renew with UnitedHealthcare will
have broader access to quality care with one of the largest local and national
networks, robust clinical programs and a full range of affordable products.
