Thomson Reuters Study Finds Step Therapy
Programs May Increase Overall Healthcare Costs for Employers

intended to promote the use of effective, cheaper medications may create barriers
that lead people to receive less of needed medications, according to a Thomson
Reuters study. As a result, patients ultimately require more -- and more costly

and AmeriHealth: Two New Federal Mandates
CMS Mandatory Reporting Requirements
The first mandate reflects mandatory reporting requirements for all group
health plans as required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
(CMS). Under this federal mandate (Section 111 of Public Law 110-173), CMS
requires all group health plan insurers to submit beneficiary information, like
Social Security numbers, to CMS for purposes of coordination of benefits for
all covered individuals ages 55 or older (45 or older effective January 1,
2011).

United Healthcare: Specialty Drug Transition to Prescription Solutions
United Healthcare has
further enhanced the value of its Specialty Pharmacy Program with the
continued transition of specialty drug distribution to Prescription Solutions,
UnitedHealth Group's owned specialty pharmacy provider. Effective May 1, 2009,
Prescription Solutions will become a participating provider for Xolair®,
Myobloc® and Botox®, three specialty medications under
the Medical Benefit.

Healthcare: Healthy Pregnancy Program Provides New Offering and Improved Web
site
This
month United Healthcare launched an improved Health Pregnancy Program
Web site to provide over 90,000 expectant mothers with online education,
interactive tools and support throughout pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.
Members now enrolling in the Healthy Pregnancy Program receive a new Mom(me)
kit and breastfeeding DVD in addition to the program's other offerings.
