"I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." ~Mother Teresa
In 1970 I was proud to let people know I went to Washington, DC to march in the anti-war rally with a vision that it would help to stop the war in Vietnam. Years later, I realize the power and freedom that envelopes the concept of being "for" rather than "against" something. Mother Teresa knew this and left tender examples along her life's path.
Our words and actions reflect our beliefs . . . and what we focus on expands. Concentrating on the war on drugs, the war on terror, or being anti-this or that doesn't seem to be resulting in lasting change. What would happen if we collectively focused on ultimate peace, radiant health, and being more loving to others? What would a political campaign look like if the candidates passionately stated what they were for rather than against?
It's been decades since that march in Washington and I'm probably still a bit of a radical hippie-type. But now I believe each of us can make a difference if we choose to lovingly step through this world pro-peace. The older I get, I want to stand FOR things rather than fight against them. And it's becoming clearer that the peace and freedom I am seeking comes from within.
One of my favorite songs (bringing me to tears each time I hear it) is by singer/songwriter Cerise. She wrote, "Let Freedom Ring" and sings it with Ramon Pratt on the video clip below.
