Greetings!
The feature article in this issue is one I almost didn't write. It reveals my decision to ignore some pretty serious foot pain and I regret to say that I slipped in the "self-care" department. Well, I am now ready to share with you what I learned through this experience. I hope this article, Humbled to (and by) My Feet, will be supportive of your decisions to take good care of yourself all the time.
Speaking of self-care, have you been reading the latest news about Vitamin D? It seems there is good reason to have the media attention it is getting. I've included a link to a recent Huffington Post article written by Dr. Christiane Northrup that sheds brilliant and thoughtful light on the sunshine vitamin.
Here is other news I would like to share with you. A few years ago, I made a very conscious and serious decision to
partner with a nutritional company. I believe I have chosen one with the
highest integrity and with products that are backed by solid scientific research. USANA Health Sciences is a 17-year-old company, publicly traded on the NASDAQ, and whose founder, Dr. Myron Wentz, has a vision of a world free of pain and suffering. I share that vision! The USANA products meet the nutritional standards recommended in all four of Dr. Northrup's books, including her best seller, Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom. After being associated with USANA for over two years, I have learned too much and seen too many positive results to keep quiet about the need for high-quality nutritionals. That is why I am including Choosing Supplements Wisely in this issue. It was written to provide information you can add to your own research and intuition in order to make choices best for you.
I am offering my latest Nia workshop, Igniting the Power of the Pelvis, at The Dance Space in Seattle this October. The description of this dynamic workshop is below.
Thank you for joining my new Facebook group for Washington Wellness Associates. I look forward to communicating with you in between newsletters and I love reading your posts on the wall.

Humbled to (and by) My Feet
My left foot has been hurting since early summer. In June I spent
two wonderful weeks in Charlottesville, Virginia, walking everywhere in cute
little sandals that provided absolutely no support at all. I somehow assumed
they were good for my feet since I had paid so much for them.
I came back home and took daily walks on the beach as I
enjoyed our awesome summer weather in Seattle . . . and rather than wearing
tennis shoes, I just wore sandals because it was so hot. I kept feeling
increasing pain in my left heal, my arch, my ankle and my knee--but I ignored it
because, after all, I am in wonderful health, great shape, do Nia several times
a week and have a great spiritual practice. How could I possibly have foot
pain? I ignored it, didn't speak of it, kept dancing on a painful foot (here's
where the humility enters) and attempted to will away the pain. It didn't go
away. It got so bad I fought back tears as I stepped out of bed each morning.
So, those of you who have experienced plantar fasciitis or other foot problems
know where this is going. But surely, I, Susan Tate, was not going to develop a
foot problem because I take such great care of myself!!!

Vitamin D in the Headlines
I have the privilege of working under the guidance of Dr. Christiane Northrup, women's health visionary and best selling author. She recently wrote an excellent piece for the Huffington Post that includes succinct and current information about Vitamin D.

Choosing Supplements Wisely
Are you getting enough Vitamin D? Are your anti-oxidants and minerals manufactured in the best synergy? Are you taking a pure, high-quality fish oil product daily? Is there a correlation between the cost and quality of supplements?
Sorting through the maze of information on supplements these days could be a full time job. These five suggestions may be helpful:
1. Choose pharmaceutical grade products that have been produced according to the FDA's Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Only a few companies voluntarily opt to do this. It is, amazingly enough, NOT required by the FDA to manufacture vitamins with the same exact standards as pharmaceuticals!
2. Research the product for its completeness, bioavailable, potency, purity and strength.
3. Check out The Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements, a third party study led by biochemist Lyle MacWilliam. His research team evaluated over 1,500 vitamin/mineral products available in North America. They evaluated these products using 18 health support criteria, including the ones listed in #2 above. I have the most recent (fourth) edition of the Comparative Guide
and would be happy to let you know how your current products are rated. There are four companies in North America that achieved the highest possible rating.
4. Click here to take the free Health Assessment designed to analyze your nutritional needs and optimize your diet and supplement regimen. If you decide to order products from USANA, please click here and create your own Preferred Customer account so you can save up to 25% off the retail price. Or, contact me and I'll help you do that so you pay the same price that I do!
5. Contact me to schedule a complimentary 15-minute appointment so that I can provide further guidance.
