Reserve
Society Releases
Hi everyone!
It's time again for
another Reserve Society allocation. The following
beers will be available for order between now and August 8th
at society.thebruery.com
Provisions Series: Snicklefritz, 3 bottle limit, $10 per bottle
Snicklefritz was the second place beer in our Batch #50 contest two years ago and some of you may remember trying it back in 2009 when we first brewed it as a draft only beer. The recipe came from Kyle Manns who is now employed as a brewer for TAPS Brewpub in Brea and we like to think it's this beer that made his resume strong enough to get the job. Snicklefritz is a Belgian-style golden ale that has been spiced with several different citrus rinds like tangerine, grapefruit and lemon, has been aged on oak cubes and has had some other secreet spices added in as well. It's an overly complex recipe that produces an outstanding beer. You can check out some of the tasting notes from the original batch here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16866/52571
100% Brett Autumn Maple, 3 bottle limit, $12 per bottle
For those who haven't had our fall seasonal, Autumn Maple, it is a strong brown ale brewed with freshly roasted yams, maple syrup, molasses and several pumpkin-pie-like spices. The 100% Brett version is the same recipe, only it is fermented with - you guessed it - 100% brettanomyces bruxellensis yeast rather than our house ale strain. This beer, whose original conception won the gold medal for experimental beers at the 2010 World Beer Cup, has been quietly aging in the bottle since last fall, and is quite unique. The brettanomyces dries out the beer, emphasizing the sweet, smokey notes of the roasted yams and other spices, adding an additional layer to an already complex ale. A common misconception is that brettanomyces creates sour ales; while brett can contribute some acetic acid, brettanomyces is only one element of the flavor and aroma profiles found in many sour ales. Its character is better defined as a "barnyard" or "earthy" quality, along with that dryness we mentioned earlier. Souring bacteria such as lactobacillus, pediococcus and acetobacter are typically responsible for the production of acid in sour beers. We want to make sure you know what you are getting with this beer, so please note that 100% Brett Autumn Maple is NOT a sour beer.
