 The Tallahassee Museum invites shoppers to cross off holiday lists with unique, personalized goods while benefitting a cause at the 45th Annual Market Days, December 4-5, 2010 at the North Florida Fairgrounds. Acclaimed as a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 event, the juried arts and crafts festival features gifts from stocking stuffers and affordable goods perfect for teachers and friends to under the tree extravagance, home decor and even a bit of personal indulgence for those seeking the perfect present for themselves. | Fall Farm Day - December 11th |
Come enjoy delicious syrup made right before your eyes and celebrate our region's heritage during Fall Farm Day on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An array of activities will be offered by a variety of area organizations and individuals, spreading beyond the farm and throughout the Museum's grounds.

| A Message from the Director | |

In October, I had the pleasure of participating in the third of four scheduled meetings of our Interpretive Planning Advisory Committee. As you might remember, this committee is charged with helping us in our work with the Haley Sharpe Design firm to redevelop, enhance and better integrate the Museum's stories about our region's history, environment and people. The committee is composed of a very diverse group of individuals from the region and beyond, including humanities and history scholars, museum and zoo directors, business people, board members, conservationists and designers.
For two days I was captivated by the committee's intellect and level of discussion, including subjects as diverse as the settlement and economic development of our area, biodiversity, "Southern sensibilities," wildlife biology, slavery, population and cultural dynamics, migration, immigration, architecture, and even old vs. new Tallahassee. | Holiday Camps for Kids |
The Tallahassee Museum is offering Holiday Camps for children during the holidays while school is not in session. The affordable camps offer opportunities for making new friends, exercising and learning in a safe and fun atmosphere. Available for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, the camps are a great way to get children involved in fun activities during their Winter break. | Winter Guest Animal Arrives | |
Come meet two visiting Brown-nosed Coatis and learn about their fascinating lives in the woodlands of South America. Coatis are active, raccoon like animals, which have a long ringed tail and a flexible, upturned, elongated snout. The mammals are known for being expert climbers who enjoy sleeping in trees, as well as foraging for food in the forest canopy.

| Tallahassee Museum Gains New Expertise |
The Tallahassee Museum recently elected three new individuals to the Museum's Board of Trustees during the annual corporate meeting. In addition, five board officers were elected and seven board members were re-elected to serve for the coming year.
"Made up of business and civic leaders who are passionate about the future of children, families, our natural and cultural environment, and building a strong Tallahassee community, the Board is an important part of what makes the Tallahassee Museum successful," said Tallahassee Museum executive director/ceo Russell Daws. "We are thrilled to have persons of this caliber take time out of their busy schedules to help us carry out our valuable mission."
The following individuals were elected as new board members:
- Michael Carter, Partner and CPA, Carr, Riggs and Ingram, LLC
- Kent Hutchinson, CPA, formerly of APOGA, retired
- Tom McPherson, former Representative and Senator for the state of Florida, retired

| Political Collectibles Teach Visitors About Ever-changing Elections |
The exciting world of political collectibles is an interesting part of the Tallahassee Museum's artifact collections. The Museum's collection includes: political buttons, t-shirts, yard signs, voting paraphernalia, media coverage, and other voting materials. These objects highlight the dynamics of individual elections and help us tell stories about our country's social history. More specifically, political artifacts provide information about our ever-changing election process.
