Message from Chris |
As we approach July 4th, my family and I plan to join friends and neighbors in these simple prayers for our Country and for sound government remembering John Adams quotation from a letter written to Abigail on the day the Declaration was approved by Congress:
"[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty."
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail. Amen.
Finally for Sound Government, O Lord our Governor, bless the leaders of our land, that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth. Lord, keep this nation under your care. Source: The Book of Common Prayer.
Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving as your Delegate.

Volunteer Opportunity: Hanover Tomato Festival |
The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile will be at the Hanover Tomato Festival on Saturday, July 14. We would love for you to bring your family by and take a trip through history.
About the Civil War 150 HistoryMobile
The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile is an interactive "museum on wheels" housed in a 53' expandable tractor-trailer. The four-year tour launched on July 21, 2011, in conjunction with the 150th anniversary commemoration of the First Battle of Manassas. The HistoryMobile will visit museums, parks, fairs, schools, and other sites throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. The HistoryMobile draws together stories from all over Virginia and uses state-of-the-art technology and immersive exhibit spaces to present individual stories of the Civil War from the perspectives of those who experienced it-young and old, enslaved and free, soldiers and civilians.
For more information visit: 150 HistoryMobile
The Hanover County Sesquicentennial Committee is in need of a few volunteers to assist with the staffing of an informational booth at the Tomato Festival. If you can work a shift please contact David Deal at ddeal@hanovertavern.org

Boot Camp for New Dads |
Boot Camp for New Dads continues to grow with 350 participants last year and tracking for 400 in 2012 and 2 NEW locations including Memorial Regional this year. More information at First Things Richmond
Boot Camp for New Dads has a NEW unfunded need and were hoping that you could help them raise the $3,200 needed this year to purchase the NEW manual: "Crash Course for New Dads" for each participant this year.
This is replacing a simple booklet we used in previous years: Lessons from the Front Lines. This new manual is exceptionally well written in an easy reference format for the prospective fathers. It includes things like:
* a pull out Childbirth Coaching Guide to put in your hospital bag and
* units on Preparing for the birth,
* Settling In with and Caring for Your Baby and
* my favorite: Caring for New Moms.
* A sample exercise included for before the baby comes is to write down a list of fun things you like to do together with your wife now and then 6 months after the baby comes, to review that list and make sure you have started doing some of those things together to keep the relationship fires stoked.
As you can understand that even at a bulk cost of $8 each this comes to $3,200 for the 400 participants we are serving this year. If you are able, can you please help them raise most of this by making a donation today? Your help will make a difference in the lives of many children and families that impacts for years to come.
